How to deal with snobbery?

Just remember you own your car. I would guess most peoples cars on your estate are owned by either the bank or credit card companies!0

We have a bit of this in our close. Most houses have at least 2 cars - under 3 years old and one family sized. We have an 8 year old Clio! Some neighbours have joked that the people with the newest cars are often prioritising them over their mortgages! No way would I want to be in that position.Mortgage free wannabeMortgage (November 2010) £135,850Mortgage (November 2020) £4,7840

Yup, same here, ignoring the company car our cars are 17 and 18 years old. Both reliable, run well and are an awful lot more fun to drive than a modern FWD econobox. Luckily I don't live in a snobby area so nobody cares, I actually got to meet most of my neighbours when I was doing an engine swap in my old Volvo over the course of a few days, they all came around for a nose on their way home from the pub!
Moving to a more stereotypically middle class area soon (better position for commuting and gives me Bath and Bristol as potential locations for a future job) and it's going to amuse me greatly when we lower the tone of the area with our cars.0 -
Broken Britain that you even think this way.0

We've got two cars - a nice shinny posh one and a knackered old banger. To be honest the good one is normally parked in the garage while the banger lives outside so I'm not sure were making the most of the bling factor. It doesn't bother me though, I bought a nice car because like driving in it not because I wanted to show off.0

Are these comments not a type of reverse snobbery?!
People who don't have average cars are all liars , poor or dodgy show offs?! The people I know with unique or expensive cars are guilty of just having way more money than I do and buying what gives them pleasure.
OP , some neighbours will judge because we live in a very judgemental world but if you car is clean (a pet hate of mine is people who leave their cars covered in dead bugs and bird droppings) and works , why care what others think?
Unless it's a smart car , obviously:D0 -

Exactly........... It's impossible to have nothing in the fridge, unless it's new or being cleaned.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I know alot of it is in my own head and should just ignore them. That said we do live in a very judgemental world which does not help but I guess it's their problem not mine.
Thanks for the responses so far though!0 -
People will pull their face if it's filthy and full of takeaway boxes. As long as it's clean most people won't think anything of it.Strider590 wrote: »Exactly........... It's impossible to have nothing in the fridge, unless it's new or being cleaned.
