Did you get the closing date wrong?

Probably not, the post is from 6 months ago.

I like Black Sheep and Deramores.
Ebay used to be good for bargains until the postage went up.

I always use the Wool Warehouse they are free delivery over £25 and often you get a wee extra treat in the parcel. I would highly recommend their Drops range as it is lovely and affordable yarn :D
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
  • If you've got a HobbyCraft by you they currently have 3 for 2 on all their wools, branded and their own. Their value brand isn't that good but they've got 100 g balls of Haywards double knit at £1.99 per ball.

Someone earlier mentioned Angel Yarns - STAY CLEAR OF THEM! I was one of many a couple of years ago who ended up having to liaise with their local trading standards agency re their policy of taking money from customers BEFORE the goods were in stock with them, as in WELL BEFORE, as in months and months and months of trying to get my money refunded. Trading Standards locally were well aware of this company and I believe were compiling a kind of 'class action' suit against them. Don't know what ever happened with this, whether it went forward or not. Eventually I started Small Claims Court proceedings against them plus blasted every website I could (including their holiday homes letting one, they've got multiple businesses) with the saga and they did finally refund my money. I would avoid this company like the plague.
  • Can anybody help me on a slightly different topic. I have a knitting pattern which specifies chunky wool but I want to use super chunky to give it more oomph. Should I use the same size needles and perhaps just knit a size smaller? Any advice would be welcome! Thanks

I think you will need to test your tension. Follow instructions in your pattern to do the tension square. I would imagine that a Super Chunky pattern will use larger needles and less stitches than a Chunky one.

Aldi had a few different types of Yarn in a few weeks ago - my local stores still have a good supply of it. most of it is 'fancy yarn', from one of which I ended up making Twelve scarfs - because everyone wanted one! and I saw the exact same yarn on offer in a craft shop for double the price. they also have large balls of kids yarn in a flecked pattern (very pretty for toddler knits). all very cheaply priced.

apart from that, I often buy yarn from charity shops, or If I must buy new yarn B&M do 200g balls for I think £1.19 for double knit. Shaws is around the same and Wilkinsons also do a very limited range of yarn but well priced. Poundstretcher do a range of yarn and quite a few 'kits' which come with the needles and pattern for under a fiver (a good way of building your needle collection too).

If you use thicker wool and the original needle size your garment will be stiffer and not drape properly. However, of you use bigger wool and the correct needles for the bigger wool your garment will be bigger.

If you click on my name and then look for other posts by me there is one about quicker knits for a baby in 4ply wool. I explain in that post how to work out how to substitute wool. Sorry, but it is too long to re-type here.
  • Does anyone that has used Woking yarns know if customs duty and import vat have to be paid? Thanks
