I hope this is relevant to this part of the forum.
Was wondering if anyone had came across any good value online yarn / wool stores? I'm a beginner knitter and looking for the best places to buy.
Thanks

One of the best ones I've found are https://www.ems-stitches.co.uk, sorry, don't know how to do a link! This is one of the cheapest, especially for the good brands and the P&P is free. I0

http://www.mcadirect.com/shop/index.php
this is a good shop - post them out quickly and free p&p over £5.
I have also used https://www.angelyarns.co.uk a few times - they have a great selection.
You'll find little difference in price between shops though, unless there's special offers on. eBay also seems to be good - I'm about to start getting some from the US from ebay e.g. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/toadal-discount-yarn_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amefsQ3amesstQQtZkm
Postage from US often isn't that much and the exchange rate is so good and you get lots of the yarns mentioned in all the US books which are great!.0 -
I use www.kempswoolshop.co.uk
Great service and good sales. I've bought far too much from them!
edit: forgot to add somewhere in old style is the Knitting thread which could be useful for you.0 -
Try knit'n'caboodle.co.uk - they have great service and I really like them.0

I second this - their clearance section is particularly good and great service.
Apparently, Ald! have some wool in at the mo. I haven't seen any this time round but in the past it was good value and knitted up nicely.
As mentioned above, there is a knitter's thread and also the knit a square thread which includes what people are knitting for charity.
ETA: I have used Country Crafts for Stylecraft DK (a good quality budget yarn) - excellent service and price and other knitters I know have used Ice Yarns and sing their praises - reasonably quick delivery from Turkey (I think).
Also check out ravelry if you haven't already - loads of free patterns.

Another vote for Kemps, have a great clearance section, just remember to buy enough wool for entire project as often not repeated. Also have used Deramores, for newer patterns and they have a sale on at moment. Found them very good and quick to ship.

Black Sheep Wools have an offer at the moment:
"If customers use the code DMKNIT between now and 9am on 2/4/2013, not only will they get free delivery but an extra 10% off! - This is a massive saving on their standard prices."
