  • went to the nearby city today (on a once a year trip!) managed only to spend £13 on DD and £13 on some medication we needed to buy, (then had had enough of trawling shops), then £4.54 at mcd's for a treat meal on the way home. need to go and check my purse for receipts, still under but have not counted properly last four or five days, so have estimated my total and will take the ? off when it is accurate.

i have been doing at least half of my meals from the freezer and stores this month (trying to empty it for the fruit gluts) and still am spending alot. food has sure gone up!

  • Hey guys.

Although i havent officially startrd the challenge (payday is thursday) thought i would log todays spends to get me into the habit, was really annoyed today as my notebook broke down, took it to the comp shop to be told it would be £45 to fix it, i agreed and left it there, then realised an internet place around the corner probably would have done it cheaper, i didnt go in and ask as didnt want to wind myself up even more. so took it out on my pockets with useless junk!

    m an s £3.95
bought, some whoopsied frites, single portion 80p
    prawn crakers bogof 1.05
    swiss bar 1.35
    peach and raspberry soda 76p

    poundland £3

    slab of dairy milk
    drumstick lollies
    velvet crunch 6 pack

    iceland 3.50
salt and pepper chicken wings (had some for dinner they werent even nice)
duck spring rolls (also had some for dinner 10 for a quid and so tasty
ww toffee crumble ( i know with all the junk i bought i have a cheek buying ww, its to go with my lowfat free custards)

I bought nothing but junk, and i am ashamed of myself , as i have been doing so good and didnt even need any of it, my freezer is quite full and i had taken dinner out to do some batch cooking.

    Ah well, wont happen again.

Could we be related?;) I always do stuff like that and most of the time the stuff I buy isn't even that nice but I eat it and waste half of it - mind you I can eat drumstick lollies for England!

Sorry about your notebook - hope that the £45 includes a post repair warranty period.

wow £6 is alot for gammon, i have some gammon steaks in the freezer that i got for 75p :p i don't think i've ever paid full price for steakis but for £6 i could buy a whole gammon :)

So could I and I have several gammons in my freezer that cost far less than the gammon steaks that I bought, but like I said, these were a rare treat.

Today will be a NSD for me.

Re washing powders - saw this linked to on another thread thought might be useful for some..http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10KGS-TOP-BRAND-CRUSHED-WASHING-POWDER-TABLETS-/140602362274?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item20bc8dc9a2

Thanks for this. Have just ordered a bag! Fingers crossed! I was due to buy washing powder for the month this week. As I had £20 sat in my Paypal account I am going to be very cheeky & not include this spend in my Sept or Oct budget because it hasn't affected the budget / cash I have to spend on groceries! Oooh very exciting! :rotfl:

boyfriend is increasingly moaning about my homecooking saying oh it's bland etc. Him and his family seem to live on beefburgers and chicken breast in crumbs and pizza and I let rip at him and said in future I'll stop wasting my time and effot on homecooking and we'll just eat crud from farmfoods. I think he's suitably shamed now. I love cooking from scratch and to my taste it's lovely, would rather have something fresh than full of additives and fat.

    and breathe!

Hang in there. My husband was brought up on Iceland processed items. Whenever I ask him if he's enjoyed my home made dinners he gives a non-committal mmmm or no-emotion yes. However, he has done 2 things that make me realise he is more grateful than I thought. My Mum passed a way several years ago & I heard him say to someone else that his fond memories of her were her ability to cook & how she'd passed it on to me (:A) & the other time, we had a bunch of friend's round & he was in the kitchen with a mate & I overheard him say that he was so grateful of the way I was feeding him & our kids & educating them at the same time & he felt he could not have offered them that without me!! (:A again)! We have a fab relationship (married 11 years this Friday coming) but he is definitely not Mr Show My Emotions so I cling to the little snippets of info I have.

Eventually he'll thank you & appreciate it. Keep up the good work :)

LOL, im just grateful, as if it wasnt for all the challenges on here and me furiouslly saving, i would never have been able to afford the £45 just 5 days from payday, let alone be digging into my savings, so i am slightly glad for that.

Drumsticks are my downfall they are too yummy!

didnt think of the warranty, but if it does breakdown i will be straight down there with my receipt!

  • Hello all!

Well, OH and I haven't done so well this month. Finances have taken a few unexpected hits  so we revised our target down to £250 earlier in the month, having been comfortably under last months £400 target and initially aiming for £300 this month. Perhaps this was too much of a leap..! It doesnt help that OH has started on a mega healthy diet (he does need to lose a good bit of weight!) so we've been buying loads of expensive bits - F&V, punnets of berries, lots of chicken breasts etc (grrrr). I can't get over how much cheaper it is to have an unhealthy diet in some aspects.

We currently stand at £306.87, so £57 over, £7 over our initial target but as we don't have the cash this month I'm counting that as an official fail. Payday is this wednesday, and as we won't need anything between now and then, I'm declaring at £306.87.

Can we be put down for a target of £300 again next month please?

    Must do better!

    Hello

I need to join the GC again! I had a disaster last month, I daren't even add up how much we spent but it was probably over £500 for 2 adults, a toddler and 2 small dogs:eek:

My month started on the 22nd and I include all food, nappies, toiletries, cleaning and alcohol and any meals out and money spent in the staff canteen although I am intending to make packed lunches. My target for this month is £380. I know this is a huge amount but I will be pleased if we can stick to this for everything. I find that I never seem to have the time to batch cook etc now that I am working full time and doing initial teacher training so more pre prepared stuff is sneaking into the trolley:o

I am meal planning again and using a shopping list. I am also intending to shop just once a week.

First weeks shopping done and £108.24 spent but this is all the dog food for the month and 2 cases of lager plus stocking up on cheese, tin foil, tea bags and food bags.
