  • Hi all, just popped in to update signature. Spent £140 in sainsbugs on thursday night but most of that was for DGS 7th birthday party yesterday and will come out a different budget. So only spent £60 on food for the rest of the week. Managed to get some reduced bargains, so have salmon, beef olives, meatballs and gammon in freezer for another day.
    Hugs to all x

  • Finally caught up with all the posts :D
Thursday I spent £1.20 on two packs of 4 baking spuds. I was going to buy loose potatoes (needed them to go with roast chicken) but they were £1.25/kg I weighed the pre packs and they were just over a kilo each and worked out as the cheapest spuds Mr S had to offer, also 99p on a marked down caesar salad which I love so that was lunch on Friday.
friday was a NSD. Saturday lots of spends:o £14 on f&v at the market, £2.20 on cheese. £2.38 in B&M which included two bags of pasta for £1 and then £35 in Mr S - we didn't seem to get much for our money but it did include a bottle of pink for me and some cider for DH. So £55.77 to add:o
I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly :D

Just spent another £22.48 in Lidl & Tesco but I got enough stew from Lidl for 6 meals for 6 and then got 10 free campbells soup and a few other bits

You lucky thing ;) I went to my local Ldl's in the hope of getting some of the weekend special diced steak and/or the half price pork leg joint but nothing left  So I am now searching through the recipe lists looking for a couple of vegetarian options - lookslike I will be cooking up Veg Curry or Pie and a lentil or chickpea something for a few days all from my store cupboard supplies. I do have a couple of cooked meat l/o's portioned up in the freezer but saving them for nearer then end of the month. It will probably do me good to eat more veggie for a couple of weeks. At least I stocked up on the 39p onions and cabbage - so there's another meal idea - cheese and onion quiche with coleslaw/salad :T

I really must get to Ldl's earlier as its only a small store with one small raw meat chiller.

  • i've had a sorting the house/laundry/decluttering/food prep/food planning/preserving weekend, with ample doses of sitting reading the various mse threads. I'm torn between sticking to the challenge (and spending just what i need for meals) and stocking up for winter! :rotfl:

I have really enjoyed reading the simply being mum site and going to try to do the friday using up whats left system, rather than meal planning for fridays. Today i made pizza and we're having it again for tea next week as there was mozzeralla in the fridge going out of date next week.

Today i went to buy fruit and ham and yogurts for dd's lunchboxes, i bought apricots too as fancied a recipe i had read with them and chicken in. Also bought some more flour as getting low, and lots of baked beans (had erroniously been given a promise voucher for the b1g2f beans last week, apparently the promise would be for the free ones if you could buy one or two tins but you cannot get a voucher if there are none there, they kindly honoured the voucher as the staff member had given it to me.

It's going to be a challenge to come in on budget unless i really do stick to using up the contents of the freezer and storage boxes. The good news is i cannot make more for the freezer (or buy more for the freezer) as they are both full!

An NSD yesterday and spends today of £8.47 and £5.98 added. That includes enough mayo for Him Indoors to see the month out [I hope - but he treats it as a major food group, so we'll see], bread, a few jars of things like mint sauce and horseradish for the winter stash, some fresh veg and salad bits [arrived at Mr T just in time to nab salads and spring onions reduced to 10p and coleslaw at 7p :) which we'll have later with pizza - should take the edge of Him Indoors' pizza delivery craving for another week or two].

Slow cooker veg curry planned for tomorrow, and pasta on Tuesday; shouldn't need to get any more fresh stuff in until Wednesday at the earliest, all being well... [but best laid plans, and all that :rotfl:]

Keep up the good work, all.
Haven't done the GC since February, but a glance at the Tower of Receipts tells me I really need to get back into it... and plenty of other Challenges besides. :o

  • Hi

    Here is a little update.

This week we have had a couple of trips to Tesco Express totalling £17.63 a couple of loaves of bread , a trip to wilkos at £5.77, finally a trip to Morrisons today (gosh it is busy on a Sunday morning) £57.

I got a few bargains in Morrisons and spent a bit more than planned today but still ok.

Going to do a meal plan now. (I know I should really have done it before I shopped).

It is hard to know how much M will want at tea time as he is starting school full time tomorrow and is having school dinners. He will probably want something hot but if not we always have stuff in for sandwiches - it will be jam, cheese or quorn ham this week. I have quorn beef for me and italian ham for hubby.

Mon - Potato and onion pie with beans/brocolli and gravy
Tues - Pasta with tomato, mushroom, pepper, onion, garlic sauce
Wed - Jacket potato, cheese and beans
Thurs - Curry and rice / savoury rice with extra veg
Fri - Sausage, mash, veg and gravy
Saturday - Potato Waffles, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes
Sunday - Cottage pie with quorn mince, veg and gravy

These are inter-changable and can be adjusted to suit.
