Just popping on to ensure I do my recipts later!!! I am way over and I'm not really sure why? I have meal planned and stuck to it. The only reason I can think is that I was running low on alot of things so have stocked up. Have also noticed that food is just getting dearer and dearer. My usual shop for a week would be around £30 per week with another £15-£20 for top ups and stuff I only buy fresh on the day. My weekly shop is now closer to £50 per week with another £20 easily. This is really frightening as the money has to come from somewhere. Both my DH & I work full time but we are on a 2 yr pay freeze and we both have to travel a fair distance to work which means that the majority of our income goes on fuel (which is also spiraling out of control). HoHum, time to tighten that belt a little more, not sure how but will find a way.Just little old me!0

Hoping for a NSD today - have just made a giant pan of lentil and vegetable soup and it is yummy! I just threw a packet of chopped carrot and swede (reduced to 10p in Asda), two chopped onions, a cup of lentils, couple of chopped sticks of celery, some thyme and three chicken stock cubes in a pan and covered with water and simmered for 2 hours, then added a knob of butter and some black pepper and blended with stick blender until smoother but still a bit chunky IYKWIM. It is so nice I am having it for my lunch now at 11.45 - it's really filling too and there will be loads to freeze once kids have had some after school.
I need to do some baking for lunchboxes but I want to try and make something which is a bit healthy - will have a look through the recipe index in a bit.
Tea tonight will be pork steaks with hm wedges and salad/beans (DD1 won't eat beans and DD2 won't eat salad).Jane

Good morning everyone
Have just had a lovely morning cleaning and preparing the pears for my pear and lemon jam which is currently bubbling away. We were given two big bags of pears on Friday by a man at DHs work and after making a batch of Plum and pear marmalade (which is really nice) I still had lots left. I also made some plum cheese and a big pear and blackberry crumble. Delicious and free except for sugar and a couple of other bits.
I have spent another £10.31 over the weekend on bits I had forgotten on Friday, will update my sig soon.
Have a nice day everyone.

PS Best buy in F@rm Foods....2.5kg bags beef mince with onions that you can cook from frozen, 2 bags for £5. Used some last night to make cottage pie and was really pleased with it.
Saw this the other day and ummed and ahhed as had some gross experiences with frozen mince before - and some good ones i have to say - will give it a try, be madness not to at that price! Can you cook direct from frozen with this one TOT?
NSD as went out last night and have no energy to do anything really.Trying very hard to be frugal and OS - just plodding on and doing my best!

NSD number 8 for me today.
This morning sister gave me some huge potatoes that had grown out of the strays from last years crop, so jacket potatoes for tea.
Also, one of dads friends gave him a packet of cheap fairy cakes that he passed on to me, not something that I would normally buy, but I will use some for a trifle base and stick some icing or melted chocolate on the others to make them a little bit more appealing. I would not turn down something for free
My biggest challenge at the moment, is trying to find alternatives to allums (onions, leeks etc) for flavouring in cooking. I used to use them in just about everything, but I developed an intolerance to them that has been gradually getting worse.
I used to love onions and leeks, but no matter what I try, there does not seem to be anything that even comes close to replacing the flavour:(
On the positive side, at least it has led to me experimenting more:)
I hope everyone is keeping safe in this wind today.
