Hi, i currently have a 50mb connection with virgin, but, we are in 3 weeks moving to a new housing estate that has no virgin broadband supply. What will happen with my contract? Its a fairly recent one [within the last 6 weeks when we werent moving] and i cant find any information as to whether virgin will be installed there in the future. Will i have to pay anything to end the contract?

Call them and ask them - I would expect some form of termination payment if you are only 6 weeks into a new 12 month contract - but it depends on the circumstances.
The thing is you chose to move, and you chose where you move, if VM don't supply there then that isn't in these circumstances their problem as such.
Speak to them and see what they say - usually they know what's being installed in the next few months so they may say that its due for install if its a new estate...0 -
VM are carrying something in the order of £6Bn of debt so they aren't adding to that much by cabling new areas. Some do get done close to existing cable areas but that's about it.
They'll almost certainly want you to swap over to their ADSL service or pay a pretty hefty penalty to buy out of your current contract.0 -

Yup,the's a town near me that was cabled up nearly ten years ago,to this date it's not been released for sale & most of the cabinets are bare now after the kit inside them has been robbed for use in existing cabled areas.0 -
I have sort of experience with this. What I would do (if you have no joy speaking to them directly) is to try and submit a house move request to your new area. There used to be a different set of data for new sales vs house moves a few years ago, so when I submitted my house move application I got a response along the lines of "Yes! We can supply you there, just take your box and give us your moving date and we'll be in touch to organise the rest".Call them and ask them - I would expect some form of termination payment if you are only 6 weeks into a new 12 month contract - but it depends on the circumstances.
I did this, and then after moving it turned out they didn't supply the area, so I sent them a copy of the email I'd had and explained that the problem was on their end with their coverage data, with instructions on what I'd done and how they could get the same results. Eventually after pointing out their T&Cs and the part that says if they fail in their obligation to me, then I'm entitled to cancel with no penalty, they dropped all the remaining charges as the error was at the Virgin Media end.
It's a small chance as this was several years ago so I'd be surprised if their data was still inaccurate, but if you get into the same loophole as I did then with a bit of persistence you should be able to get away with not paying anything.0 -
Hi
I moved home in June this year 5 months into a 12 month contract with Virgin (TV only) As they couldn't provide cable to my new address they charged me a £36 cancellation fee which I thought was very reasonable.
I'm now stuck with sky (no freeview signal) which works when it feels like it and having to wait 3 weeks for an engineer visit.I had to threaten to leave sky to get the £65 engineer call out charge dropped.
I know it's horses for courses but I do miss virgin cable.
Hope you get things sorted and good luck with your move.

If you choose to move to an area without cable service then yes, you are liable for the full termination fees, i.e. all the value remaining on the minimum term contract. or whatever their T&C's specify. You can reduce this by migrating your phone and broadband to Virgin National, but of course you can't take the TV service.
Be aware that this will then start you on a new 12m contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop

This happened to me and Virgin quoted me a £20 cancellation fee for Virgin TV only. I avoided that by taking their ADSL package for phone and broadband. I'd have to say that I'm broadly very happy with it.0

Do NOT take their Virgin ADSL package as a get out unless you cannot avoid it. I'd advise paying the cancellation fee instead if it's less than £50. Virgin ADSL is abysmal, overly-throttled at peak times and completely oversubscribed, just look at all the complaints in their forums. I made the same mistake and lived to regret it. As others have stated, you will also end up inadvertently taking out a new 12 month contract.0

I can't say I've had any problems with Virgin ADSL. Then again I don't live in an area of high population.0

We were 5 months into a new 12 month contract (we had always been with them but had upgraded to V Plus which came with a 12 month contract supply clause) and they didn't charge us the full fee. Like you we moved to an area they did not supply. I think we paid about £30 cancellation. This was just last year. I also had a good experience with Sky when it was them I was with and moved into a conservation area where you couldn't have a dish on the house.Officially in a clique of idiots0
