That, coupled with being a reseller, is enough to make me stay away.
As if that wasn't enough, check this out for a term and condition:
Wow, thhanks for that!:A Thanks to all the lovely people who contribute their advice! :A0 -
Hello everyone!
Thanks again to those who helped with their opinions on online backup options. I decided to go with Carbonite after reading a lot of reviews and seeing that it best suited my needs. The unlimited amount of space is very useful, so good points there. I'm currently into Day 2 of the initial backup which I expect to take quite a while. As I'm trialling the software prior to buying I'm going to report back in a few weeks noting any issues that I experience.
One thing to confirm though for anyone thinking of similar back ups is to check with your internet provider that it will be possible to upload the amount of material you need to and if any limits apply.
Thanks again!*miaomiao* wrote: »Hello nice people,
I would like to back up some important written work and images using an online back up service. Can anyone please recommend something that might:- Be large enough to store up to 100 GB (I'm currently at 42GB and expect this to increase in the next 7 months)
- Automatically back itself up regularly
- Uses version control
- Is from a reputable firm that has been around for awhile
- Is encrypted
Thank you kindly!:A:A Thanks to all the lovely people who contribute their advice! :A0 -
$5 per month you backup as much as you want for unlimited storage (yes I know it's not unlimited) but for this purpose it is

Hi all,
I'm also looking at the best solution to store a large amount of data. I need around 1TB to start with as my wife is a keen photographer generating about 10GB of data per month. (On top of the 100GBs already generated!)
I was looking at having multiple USB HDs and keeping some of site, but I was in PC World talking to their "Knowhow" people and they sell a Cloud storage solution called "Store and Share" which is 1TB for £50 per year of £150 for 5 years plus automated backups from 3 computers and remote access across the web. This sounds a very good deal at around £2.5 per month if you go for the 5 year option. This is cheaper than buying a few TB disks to handle remote backup let alone replacing those disks in a few year.
Has anyone got a view on this? I'd normally stay clear of an online product sold in a shop as it's normally very expensive but this seems cheap....0 -
The website says the limit is 150gb.

Their website is a bit rubbish to say the least. That's a fairly old offering (I was told by the man in the store).
Try this link through their knowhow website. I'm too new to post a link! so basically you need to go to knowhow dot com / uk/help-support-pillar/store-and-share.aspx?country=uk
Had to remove your website link as well.0 -

That looks better, and not bad for the price.
I would be wary though - there is very little of terms and conditions. For example, do they throttle your upload speed? Carbonite (a similar service) does after you have uploaded X GB.0 -

Thanks for that, I would never have thought about the cloud storage provider throttling upload speeds. I thought I'd been fairly organised checking out my isp.
Agree the Terms and conditions are a bit thin on the ground. Maybe I'll be able to get more information if I call them.0 -

I've now spoken to PC Worlds "experts" , there isn't any forms of throttling imposed. They also seem to have some other useful features such as when you delete a file on the cloud it gets moved into a holding area for 30 days so you can roll back (if you realise) if you delete it. I've also found out the underlying provider is LiveDrive which appears to have generally good reviews.
My wife raised a good general question I wouldn't mind an opinion on.
How secure is your data once on the site from internal staff? I know the sites have good security whilst transferring and also the providers talk about their strong firewalls etc but I haven't seen much about the whether the data is encrypted on the servers. I have paranoid visions of that bored network admin bloke surfing my uploaded pictures of my family. This is a very generalised comment, and I know that al of the providers are going to have very professional staff, however as with all parts of life, there are always the odd one or two you wouldn't necessarily trust.
Am I overly concerned?0
