I would like to back up some important written work and images using an online back up service. Can anyone please recommend something that might:
- Be large enough to store up to 100 GB (I'm currently at 42GB and expect this to increase in the next 7 months)
- Automatically back itself up regularly
- Uses version control
- Is from a reputable firm that has been around for awhile
- Is encrypted
Thank you kindly!:A

Bonus - both of these systems will sync your data to multiple other machines as well. Sugarsync is the easier to use of the two.0 -

Let's hope your ISP doesn't put a cap on the amount of data transferred per month, or impose a charge per additional GB transferred...0 -
Personally I like dropbox, but it's all horses for courses isn't it...
I've got the "max" space- something like 134 gig and it suits me down to the ground.
The initial upload took ages, like almost a week on my old router, hopefully it won't be a problem for you.Feb 2012 - onwards MF achieved
September 2016 - Back into clearing a mortgage - Was due to be paid off in 32 years in March 2047 -
April 2018 down to 28.00 months vs 30.04 months at normal payment.
Predicted mortgage clearing 03/2047 - now looking at 02/2045
Aims: 1) To pay off mortgage within 20 years - 20370 -
Thanks so much for the replies!!
Good point about checking with my broadband provider about a data cap. I'm not worried about the initial upload time, more that I will have another place that my work is saved and that this one is outside the house in case of burglary, fire, failure, etc. I'd love to not have to do it, but can't imagine the panic if my material was lost - it's 6 years worth of research. And I definitely need something that backs up automatically as I know from habit I won't remember to.
I'm checking out the reviews of your recommendations, plus Carbonite and BackBlaze too!

if you find a reasonably priced one can you post back on here? I too would like to use a system like that for my files, but couldn't find anything that was decent value
(although have managed to do a very manual back up with my netgear nas and my parents computer!)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

sugarsync do 5GB free, so it depends how much you need. Remember it will sync across multiple machines and keep 5 versions history, so you can have your lappy and desktop in sync (with access from your mobile too, and shared folders etc) - but you can sync multiple devices with it, I use it to sync 2 laptops (1 mac, 1 PC) and 2 desktops (again one of each) plus one linux box (under WINE).0 -
yeah, i'm needing a lot more space than that, the first back up will be somewhere around 300 gb! it was easy to do with my folks, just copied the files via usb then posted the hd to them! think my isp might love me if i have to do the whole lot - once it's there a weekly backup won't be massiveThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Wow! Think long and hard - does all that 300GB really need to be backed up? Is it 250GB of movies you also have on DVD, for instance? Frankly for that much storage, how about using a pogoplug and a USB hard drive, so you still have network access, but you can plumb it into a remote router somewhere!0
