Wow! Think long and hard - does all that 300GB really need to be backed up? Is it 250GB of movies you also have on DVD, for instance? Frankly for that much storage, how about using a pogoplug and a USB hard drive, so you still have network access, but you can plumb it into a remote router somewhere!

that's not even music/movies - that stuff would be a pain to replace but have it backed up a couple of places already, the 300gb is work stuff so would be nice piece of mind just to have it backed up, although could archive the older files i suppose, just difficult as some jobs come back to life and it would be good to have an automatic backup where only amended/new files would back up...

Mozy will do the job, I have been using it for quite a while now although only 21Gb stored there. My test restore of selected files went without a hitch.

The main advantage for me is the automatic backup system and the security of an offsite backup. I have it set to the default so it backs upany changes twice a day but this is adjustable.

The software integrates well with Windows and now simultaneously backs up to a local USB drive if required as well so restoring from the cloud is only a last resort.

They have also just added an an Android app so I can view all my files anywhere.

Try the software for free up to 2GB and upgrade if it suits you.

If you're worried about not keeping stuff on site, buy three (say) USB external hard drives, and keep two somewhere off site. Each day, bring one along and replace the one you backed up to last night, taking that one away with you. A sensible backup program like SyncBack will, each day, just copy the new stuff to the hard drive which is not already on it. That way you should never be more than a day 'out of date'.

    Hello nice people,

I would like to back up some important written work and images using an online back up service. Can anyone please recommend something that might:

    1. Be large enough to store up to 100 GB (I'm currently at 42GB and expect this to increase in the next 7 months)
    2. Automatically back itself up regularly
    3. Uses version control
    4. Is from a reputable firm that has been around for awhile
    5. Is encrypted
I realise I might need some software to do this but thought I'd see if anywhere does this sort of thing rolled in together.

    Thank you kindly!:A

You're saying that you don't have any parents, relatives, friends, or the like at whose houses you could store a couple of hard drives?!

    I'd suggest SpiderOak!
i've been using their 100Gb service for nearly 2 years and it's saved my data on a number of occasions!

    it's multi-platform ( Windows / Mac / Linux / iOS* / Android* )
It's one account to unlimited devices
    Saves versions of files
Encryption happens on your machine and sent to storage (Only you can get access to it! even Spider Oak can't see or access your data!)
you can run backups scheduled or continually.
Great personal service (always quick to reply to comments and help requests)

*full device backup option available soon!

    *Note*
I have mentioned to them about users who buy a subscription being able to send in the "inital" backup on DHH/DVD/Blu-Ray for large amounts of data and they have thought about it but I think security and logistics may prove a bit problematic for them.
