The one thing that really annoys me about Leicestershire buses is that there is no uniform ticket - ie one ticket can let you go on any bus with any bus company. So if you wanted to visit your gran and she lives on a First bus line and you live where Arriva serve the buses, you have to get two tickets. In West Yorkshire, this isn't the case.

I just don't get Arriva's pricing policy. From my town to Leicester, the bus is £3.80 return - 3.5 miles there. If I lived in a town 2 miles away, despite the distance between that place and Leicester is the same - £3.30. These towns are served by difference bus routes. They go at the same frequency and the first and last bus run at similar times.
  • I'm close to Leicester too, £3.80 for a Day Savey or £4 for a Multi Saver (Arrive, First & Centrebus all day) or £2.30 single into town 3-4 miles

In my part of Leicestershire it's £4 for a ticket that lets you use Arriva, First or Centrebus all day

That isn't too sad. A single to a place we go 1 1/2 miles away costs £1.80 for a single or £2.80 return. Basically £1/ mile!
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D
  • where i am its a 7 mile route and its £6.60 return or £8.80 for a day ticket
or if you want one way its £3.70

Nope, the bus companies are paid by the local council so that us over 60's can use the bus pass. The council is given a grant by central government.

On my bus ticket it says "OAP fare" or some such words, but no mention of the fare cost. How this relates to the how much the bus company claims back from the council is anybody's guess, but you can bet that this will mean that the bus company will not be out of pocket.

I live in a rural area and have been on many journeys outside of rush hour when the vast majority of passengers are using their passes. If we weren't using the buses then more daytime bus services would be cut.

hi im a bus /coach driver and i understand the bus operator gets around 75%of the average fare for that route
just because you are paranoid doesnt mean to say they are not out to get you
  • up here in glasgow if you have an all day ticket its not unusual to get of the bus and pass your all day ticket on to someone standing at the bus stop dunno if its legal but i do it everytime and have recieved quite a few that way

It's a conspiracy I tell thee! They are forcing us onto the roads in our cars because public transport is so ridiculously expensive (especially now removing all subsidies) and then they can hammer us extremely hard in envornmental taxes when we have no other option.

    Bus prices are high.
    Cheapest return ticket - £2.80
    Cheapest day ticket - £4.50
    Cheapest weekly - £17.50
    Cheapest 4 weekly - £55
    Cheapest yearly - £600

The yearly ticket isn't high, that averages at £11 a week or £1.57 a day. You couldn't run a car that cheap.
The problem is the zoning. My OH has a 4 weekly at the moment and it doesn't cover the other zone we go into :wall:. That means we end up paying out another £2.80 at least when he does or we do . However as it is he doesn't go into the other zone enough to warrent getting the zone ticket that does both, if he did we would get that instead - just annoying that we pay out so much and it doesn't even cover everything.
Travelling within different zones or even the same zone but different bus companies is a failing of public transport. Transport should be run by the government or at least private transport companies should be required to run compatible and nationwide schemes.
