Bus prices!

Options
Just need to have a little vent about this because I can't believe how expensive they have got!! I went on the bus yesterday and it cost me £3.80 for a return from my house into the town center whereas if I wanted to get an all day ticket it would cost me £3.90.. how on earth do they justify that by using two buses it is only an addition 10p to use as many as you want!! I remember when a return used to be £2! And don't even get me started on the bus pass prices, they're ridiculous!!!
Sorry, that feels much better now :rotfl:

  • I also find our local bus prices ridiculous.

If you can imagine, I live in a triangle with Town A and Town B although Town A is slighly closer. If I want to go to Town B I must walk 15 minutes into Town A and then get a bus for £1.80. If my boyfriend and I both go it's obviously £3.60.

If we get a taxi door to door from our house to Town B it's £4!! (that's how much it would cost from Town A too, we're not any nearer it). No walking to/from bus stops and waiting for the infrequent service.

We usually walk or cycle but if for some reason we want to be transported we go by taxi which is just silly really.

Ridiculous isn't it. If two of us wanted to go by bus it would be chaper to get a taxi. Very environmentally friendly, not.

  • Public transport is ridiculous in general. I live in Kent and a while ago was looking at ways of getting to Cornwall; it turned out that it was cheaper to fly there than get the train! And then they wonder why people don't use "eco-friendly" methods of transport.

I had a job interview around lunchtime up in Antrim,to use public transport I'd have to leave home at 7am & wouldn't get back home unyil early evening.Cost of the trip would be over £20 by bus, train was a no go & would've even taken longer.
So I went by car which took a fraction of the time &,even when the DSS paid me back (travel to interview scheme) it was still cheaper to go by my car by about £4.00.
Stupid thing was they'd have rather me have gone by travel warrant than by car, wasting money instead of saving money....

I'm lucky I live in a city with a pretty good service, and fairly cheap.

But I remember from my time living in various parts of England just how poor and expensive the bus service could be.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

£3.30 return to town from here, £3.70 all day. I get the monthly ticket, they're always much cheaper (30 days is £50) if you travel regularly

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

It costs £1.80 to get to town on the bus for one person. It works out at £7.20 for two people to get a bus to town and back but a taxi costs £5.60 (£2.80 each way) for the same journey so if there's two of us going up town then it's cheaper to get a taxi...Hm.

The prices are ridiculous. I remember when I was a nipper in the early '80s and to go to Barnsley from where we lived (about 5 miles away) it cost 10p each for mams n dads and 2p for kids.
I now live about 1.5 miles away from the town centre and last time I used the bus to pick up my car from the garage it was £1.40  for a single ticket.
Now if I need to go up to town, I leave the car in the drive and ignore the bus because I walk up, it's a lot cheaper. Very MSE me!! ;)

Oh, Barnsley - the bus interchange has two routes numbered 22. One between Barnsley and Rotherham and the other in the direction of Dodworth.
