Reversal
If a merchant has processed a transaction, received an authorisation and yet now wants to cancel the transaction or make a reversal – for example if they have made a mistake with the transaction amount. This can be done, but the reversal has to be the next transaction that a merchant processes after the transaction that has to be cancelled. This means a merchant cannot process a transaction for another customer and then go back to cancel a previous transaction. In this case, a merchant would have to make a refund rather than cancel the original transaction. This would mean that a merchant is processing two transactions and their acquiring bank will have negotiated how this will be charged.

For goodness sake! Ring up the shop, talk to the manager, find out what day the rude guy is off, go in, sort it out, get your money back.
Why, if the person the present was for was with you and one of you had an O2 PAYG that had earned £20 off the handset, you didn't make the call on that sim, beats me.0 -
i i agreed to a cheque if they paid me the daily charge of 42.50 a day..
its up to them what they do. they have all the information..
It seems to me that they ended up with your money because you walked out of the shop before sorting it out.
You walked out of the shop due to the behaviour of a member of staff.
So I think your options are...
1. Take the refund by cheque and forget about the whole thing.
2. Negotiate a small amount (maybe £5) of goodwill from them on top of the cheque refund.
3. Take the refund by cheque and sue them for damages. I'm not sure that that would be successful, however.0
