  • Thanks thrifty! I have a friend coming round to do a mock interview on sunday............she tells me she's pretty fierce so if I can get through this.........I may of course be reduced to tears and never look at her in the same way again!! ;)
I'll keep you posted on the interview!

Sounds like life's a bit of a financial trial for you just now. Keep positive m'dear - you never know what's around the corner - and keep looking at that jobs page - maybe a better paid job out there somewhere (ever hopeful eh?)

  • Thats my first interview out the way. Very nerve wracking and I initially thought it went well, but the more I think - the worse I recon I did. 8 interviewees so I just have everything crossed. I'll either have a job/income and no time or lots of time and no money - but I would get to be a full time mum which I'd love - even for a wee while. Win win really - or at least I'm trying to see it that way.
So - I'll know next week.
In the meantime its poverty control again.
OPs ongoing and savings pot at £2350 + serious emergency pot of £1600. Onwards and upwards.

  • Ah. Didn't get the job. Great feedback and got to the last two so thats positive at least. They are trying to get more funding for another position - so that could be me if it comes off.....still hoping.
A wee half term hol booked and will have to be packed lunches / zero spends but a holiday nevertheless.
Have a huge pile of ebaying / gumtreeing to do -zzzzzz. Love the cash but hate the process! Needs must eh?
Still no idea how much I'll get out of business when I go. IF it were enough to pay off the mortgage - I wonder if I'm better to do so or keep the cash and OP till I get a new job - better to have the cash available I suppose - just in case it takes ages. Need to work that out. Obviously I'd save the interest and wouldn't need to find £227pm but thats all pretty academic with zero income. My savings wouldn't last forever - a year at a stretch. Hmmm. Just hoping I have that problem to think about!
Keep telling myself it could all be worse. :(

Sorry about job but well done on positive feedback :T, here's hoping for another position.

Stop whittling about the business money woman! When are you likely to:
    a) know the final amount, and
    b) actually get the money?
That is when you can make some concrete plans - a lot can have happened by then :).
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)

  • Business money depends on a lot of factors. I have to make staff redundant but as the business is continuing with remaining partners - how many are going and what other costs are coming? Not simple and its not just a matter of looking at whats in the pot just now.
My year end is the end of march - thats when I'll know for sure - there are a lot of negotiations to be done before then.

  • Reading various other forums about pensions / savings etc - interesting how different people view stability in different ways. For some (on here) its owning your own home outright, for some its about maxing pensions and for other its various savings options. I'd like them all of course but owning your own home tops it for me - then savings then the dreaded pension.
I'm currently a bit 'eggs in one basket' but do aim to deal with that.
So - another job application has gone off - if I can get a job and not have to use my savings that'd be a big bonus.

Looking for a new OP spreadsheet - mine isn't right as my statements from Building Soc are different from spreadsheet - tsk.

  • Hi DS if you've been on your hols i'm hoping you had a nice break & managed to recharge your batteries a little, don't know about you but absolutely love escaping for a while but hate, hate, hate the coming back to the rat race :( Anyway onwards & upwards on the job front , keep positive & something will turn up soon,i'm sure.
Im fed up(whats new?!!) been trying to save some pennies for a desparately needed side gate & fence panel, roofing chap cold called & said he could fix a top end tile thats been loose for ages for 20 quid great i thought cept seemingly once he got up there ALL the top tiles need cementing in,all loose uo there:eek: Quote? 350 flippin' quid, thought 20 was too good to be true ! Bye.bye new gate
  • Beware thes cold callers - there is always more to be done when they get up there strangely!
I bought a new bookccase the other day on M&S's 20% off deal - been after it for ages and its gone down from £899 - got it for £550 and now feverishly ebaying to pay for it - or at least partially.
Unemployment looms and not much to apply for. Loving part time working - but with two paypackets to go I'm starting to get a wee bit nervous - only because its unchartered territory for me.
Chin up Thrifty! The grind does get frustrating sometimes - its having no time I hate more than no money. A poorly paid job is both of those.
Just remind yourself how far you've come and what you've achieved already - I find spreadsheets are the only way to cheer myself when it gets me down. Now that is sad!! :o

Bit gutted as I'm having to stop my OPs until I get a new job.
Still repayment of course and I'll be at £22K when I make my last OP so its not the end of the world but its a flamin' nuisance in my MFW quest!

  • Aah don't feel gutted DS its only a temporary setback, the mortgage will still be going downwards, maybe just make small op's as & when you can, even lots of small monthly amounts can soon add up,know that cos that's what i'm doing!! ;) Also from my purely selfish point of view you get to stay on here, you have been a real motivation to me & i would feel gutted aswell if you just disappeared into thin air :( You'll soon be outa there & be glad to draw a line under it i expect & then onto a new chapter, you have loads of willpower to overcome what life throws at us :)
