bulbs - where to buy

Morning,

I have recently moved home. I have a south facing small front garden which is in need of some TLC!

I am told that Sept/Oct is the time to plant bulbs - daffodils, crocuses, snowdrops (roses?) (tulips?). I am keen to get going so ! have a lovely colourful garden in spring.

The initial plan was to go to morrisons of dobbies for bulbs, but would it be cheaper to buy elsewhere or online?

Any advice would be much appreciated,

Thanks.

Thoroughly recommend Wilkinsons too, bought my bulbs there today and very good selection, packets of 10 crocus etc for £1 each :) Also have lots of tulips, daffodils, snow drops, iris, etc.

Had a J Parkers catalogue through today, maybe not the cheapest, but a fine selection well worthy of a browse.

My local Pound Shop and Home Bargains store have quite a selection of bulbs for £1/pack - I got 60 bulbs for £2 (mixture of anemones, alliums, corn lilies - but they also had tulips, grape hyacinths, daffodils etc etc)

Just checked - my local Lidl has run out of the 'mixed' 5kg bags but still has the 'yellow' 5kg daffodils. It's probably last week's offer so a case of 'when it's gone it's gone'

The bulbs don't seem the largest but that does mean you get a lot of them!

Always end up getting ours at Wilkinsons when they start reducing them! I love all the flowers so tend to buy quite alot so the discounts a real benefit.
  • I bought some from the pound shop and Wilkinsons. Got a good range. In face, I think I have bought too many. It's my first time gardening, and I have heard that the bulbs come up year after year, so it's a real investment. Next year, I might buy a few more expensive ones. Dahlia tubers are dear but the flowers are very popular and beautiful.
