have been getting mid 2.1s to low 1sts in all coursework
but had a stinker of an exam this morning
and if it was awful, and you're scoring highly compared to the rest of the year, you may get the same grade as the entire distribution of performance will just be shifted down.:happyhear0 -

going to bed soon so that i can hit is hard tomorrow0 -
A lot of top tier firms do say 2:1 min but I've just been offered a job with one that is supposedly a 2:1 min and all the offer states is that I have to graduate - not queried this incase its a mistake though0

I took an exam which was all MCQ. We had a separate exam with essay questions for the same module.
The questions were negatively marked and I answered less than half of the questions (I think I answered 30 out of 70). I came out and cried!
I got 69 in it! So obviously almost everyone else had done even worse than me and it had been massively scaled so everyone didn't fail.0 -
I know these firms do say 2.1's and then some people drop to 2.2 and still get a job if they have had an offer.
It does seem rather stupid chasing these graduate schemes as so many 100's apply that your chances of getting one is so low. You must have to be God's gift to the corporrate world to get one.:beer:0 -
or know people in HR at large city firms... (smug chuckle)0

I think that a lot of the time, the institution is more important than the level of the degree.
That said, I would like a 2.i or 1st this yearSimply because a lot of people do the same degree as me so jobs are competitive!

i thinkalso that while it may be important right now to do well,
in a few years.. you will have a degree and experiance
not a 2.2 and no experiance.. if you know what i mean0 -

do you mean by doing ECs and working whilst doing the degree?0 -

Cheers
There's always a point in going for them as it gives you experience of interviews if nothing else.0
