Someone spent my tesco Clubcard Vouchers

I used to work on the checkouts at tesco and the policy is.... a clubcard must be presented with the vouchers, the number and name on the vouchers MUST match whats on the clubcard,
So if husband came in and tryed to used wifes vouchers and she is not present at the checkout with him then he must be refused as he clearly is not a mrs (yes, even turned away for being her husband)
now we understand numbers sometimes dont match because clubcards get replaced because people lose them, so in this case we ask for photo id, if they prove they are the voucher holder then they can use them.
The cashier is doing her/his job, clearly in your case the cashier was not !!
The reason people can use vouchers that are not theirs is because the cashier is not checking properly and just scanning them.
Now I did all the proper checks and i got cards thrown at me , swore at, and people demanding managers if i refused because they either have not got the clubcard or they simply was not the person on the voucher, so you often think to yourself why should i bother with the checks when all i get is abuse for refusal,
Also i dont know if people know this but you can have 2 peoples names on a clubcard,0 -

Oh no you can't. You can have however to individual cards joined together in a joint account - each card has a name on it but the points are collected jointly and the vouchers are addressed to and have both names on.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -

yes u r correct, i was thinking of the vouchers as i was typing it, the vouchers will arrive with 2 names on,0 -
Well the vouchers that have been spent have gone (£73.50 in total, some online and the rest in a single store in Birmingham)
They say as they can't prove that I didn't get them and spend them, they cannot be refunded
£20 unspent have been cancelled and put back onto the card.
The odd thing is it is so traceable. I have their post address and mobile phone number (from when I changed the details BACK to the correct ones) and you can see where and when they have gained points and spent vouchers.
I've checked online today and they have used the card and added points, so they must have a card (Although I still have my original card and my wife and I have the 2 keyfobs), the points were added in the same store where they have been spending the vouchers.
I've asked for a new card / number and I'll get the points transferred and the old on cancelled.
The only thing I can think of is they got hold of something with the card number and my name and address (possible a statement?), rang up using the info on there, changed the address and then ordered new cards?
Now that we have chip & pin most till operators don't get to see the payment card - so they wouldn't notice that a payment card and clubcard had completely different names...______

I rang up on Tuesday to ask why I hadn't received and vouchers for my Christmas shop and was told that they had been sent to our new address.
We don't have a new address - been in the same place for 6 years.
Someone has hijacked my clubcard account, and spent the vouchers.
I also couldn't login online, so had to get the password reset and the e-mail address changed.
Now I can see the address that the vouchers were sent to, and I can see that they have spent £73.50 in vouchers since August.
Tesco have cancelled the unused vouchers (£20) and put them back on my card but won't send them out until the next run in Feb. If you have to show a card to use a voucher then they probably have a keyfob or something (although I have my clubcard and keyfob).
Anyway, I have e-mailed Tesco about it to see if I can get any of the vouchers back...
I had the same problem as you a couple of years ago. However, it turned out to be my Mum! She had one of my keyfobs, then she got her own clubcard. At some point she phoned them with a query and mentioned both numbers which lead to the two numbers being attached to her account. A senior moment, yes. However, at no point did Tesco query the fact that one of the numbers was attached to an account with a different first name and a completely different address in a different town. No security questions were asked re my account and no details verified. I received no communication to say that my account details had been changed. They wouldn't give me the new details in relation to my account but did keep asking whether I used another first name! It was then it clicked and I gave them my parents' address and they verified it. Having the same surname doesn't excuse any of it though, lots of people have the same surname who aren't related.
I was so put out about both the breach in security and the total lack of concern about that breach that I wrote to the chief exec - we got some gift cards in the end.
I've recently had a second experience that may help you. Mum (again) now gives me all her vouchers to save up for magazine subscriptions. She doesn't order stuff online so I said I'd set up an account for her and do the order. On that day, I tried a dozen times to set up the account with no luck - I kept getting error messages and 'try again later'. On the basis that life is too short, I thought I'd just try and do it with her vouchers on my account. I didn't really expect it to work but it did. I spent £15 of vouchers issued to my Mum's clubcard through the online account for my clubcard.
So, don't let anyone tell you that you need all the details to change an account - I can tell you that is a fib. And don't let anyone tell you that you can't spend vouchers from one clubcard online on the account of another clubcard that is a fib too. I had a magazine subscription voucher in the post a few days ago that I purchased that proves otherwise. That being the case, I'd put money on you being able to do the same instore.
The nasty people who did the deed are one thing but don't let Tesco fob you off. I'd have left it as amusing 'Mum story' if it weren't for the attitude of the people I dealt with at Tesco who seemed so completely unconcerned - they don't seem to appreciate that these points and vouchers represent real money. Take it up the line and complain to the chief exec if you have to.0 -
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but ARGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just logged into my account to exchange my vouchers into reward vouchers (having until I had £20) and my last voucher of £4.50 has been spent in ****ing Pontypridd!! I don't live anywhere near Pontypridd.
The voucher was never actually delivered so I'm going to assume it was stolen from the post. I am sooooo pee'd off right now. I was going to use them to take my OH out for a really nice meal this weekend.

Isn't this theft/police involvement?illegitimi non carborundum0 -
They don't care!
My mum had a bunch of hers saved up, and unfortunately put it in her back pocket. Upon walking into a store she enquired about the double up at that time, with vouchers in hand. 30 mins later they'd gone walkabout. Either she dropped them, highly unlikely (no need to go in that pocket) or someone took them and she didn't notice. Store was extremely uninterested in seeing if someone had. How hard is it to rewind some CCTV?
She reported them stolen to the clubcard line after we left the store... was told to reprint them out. 2 weeks later went to use them, and they showed as being used. Cue a lot of call waiting in a store and they said they'd been used. Even after being reported stolen. (call was noted on the system) I guess they didn't withdraw them, and they were used 2 days after they were nicked on a self service without the corresponding club card. Again, they replaced them ok, but she had to wait for next statement to get them back, and club card customer services didn't care that they'd be used fraudulently. "These things happen" when we pushed for any other response.0 -

It is annoying I know. If its any help it also annoys some of the Police I have seen too. Some want minor crimes like this to be chased up (and some do) others see only serious crimes as worth chasing.
I had things stolen from me (sadly worse then Tesco vouchers) I've also been a victim of ID fraud and had my (very small and 'minor') bank account cleared out in a different issue. I reported both to the Police at the time and each time was told that nothing would be done because (and this hurt) the value taken was not significant enough. -Though no one would admit to this on paper and was told there wa not enough evidence. (Why you can say not enough evidence when someone takes all my money and makes an order with net-a-porter to their own homes is confusing to me...)
I have heard in America they do things differently, they come down harder on the 'minor' crimes like shoplifting and smaller amounts which were stolen, it protects the little people like us who can't afford insurance and who also can't afford to replace which was stolen (I doubt I'll ever be able to replace what was stolen despite it being valueless to the Police). At one point last year I heard they were thinking of enforcing something like that over here but not seen or hear of anything yet though aware they'd probably not advertise it if they were!
I would imagine clubcard voucher theft falls into this and that as its a 'minor' issue at the moment Tesco would probably be required to foot some of the bill to chase and catch the thieves and with their profits being their main concern it could be why these crimes are not chased up.
However, I do remember being at school and having a Policeman who would visit once a month to educate us on the law (not because we were bad but because it was part of our education and it actually was very interesting stuff as well- hope it still happens).
I remember the Policeman explaining that in some cases the shop or bank or whomever can keep a log of offenders and as the price they steal increases, once it gets to a certain level they get the person who did the crime and bring up all the past issues to ensure they get their money back. Makes sense and this idea was further enforced to me when I worked in retail head office and learnt of logs kept of certain customers.
I have no idea how or what happens but it makes me feel slightly reassured that in some cases things can and do happen.0 -
It's not a big value but it's still very annoying!!! It's the principle more than anything! And it may only be small amounts taken from individuals but if the culprits are doing it to lots of people then the amount that they are stealing will surely go up quickly.0
