Afternoon,
I feel a bit better today which is good.
O/S - One load of washing on the line, other in the wm. Just put whole chicken with lemon in SC for tea, will do some roast potatoes later.
Glad it's pay day for me today, have put some money in the savings pot, doing quite well, we are trying to save £20k in two years so we can get married in 2013 (well that's the idea, but have to wait to be asked first!! haha!!)
Hugs to all who needs them x0 -
Just trying to squeeze in a few good wishes in the middle of a hectic day. When does life slow down?
JackieG: so sorry about your bil. There's not much anyone can say that's much comfort, but there are a lot of thoughts and prayers coming your way.
RedR: Sorry about your Dad. How awful to feel you can't disturb the nurses. Isn't that what they are there for? Had all sorts of similar problems with my Dad. It's heartbreaking isn't it? Also lots of love for your DS. Poor little chap, try to assure him that it will get better and that some teachers are actually quite nice.
Uolypool: Hope the Dr can help with your problem. These sorts of things probably seem quite trivial to someone dealing with a life or death situation, but it can have a dreadful effect on day to day living. It's very depressing for you but hopefully it can be sorted out quickly.
In my life the most pressing problem is trying to get everything that needs to be done, done. It only needs an unexpected visitor, and there are plenty of those, or an extra long phone call and my timetable goes out of the window. For the past couple of days have been trying to get out into that little patch of weed-choked wilderness that I laughingly refer to as 'garden' and beginning to start sorting it but it doesn't look as though that will be happening any time soon. I have to gingerly part nettles and thistles to pull up a few carrots or spring onions, and the cabbages are looking very sick indeed. So much for OS 'growing your own'.
Loving thoughts to all who need them.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Hi all. Another busy day here, so I'm just popping in before I dish up the dinner; we are out for aperitifs this evening with our neighbours who love a drink or three, so I'm lining our stomachs with a casserole!
Monnagran - I know how you feel. My life has been like that for months now, and I never achieve what I set out to do each day! It's very frustrating.
JackieO - there seems to be lots of chesty coughs around at the moment. Hope you feel better soon.
I hope to spend more time on here tomorrow - interruptions notwithstanding!

Finally got some money in the meter today (got down to about ten pence yesterday, eek!) and am catching up with the laundry, hung outside even though the day looks a bit dour and dreich.
Made storecupboard dinner....corned beef, brussel sprouts and tinned tatties, purely because I have the latest virus doing the rounds and am feeling a bit blech.
The OH's birthday today...and daughter and I feel so guilty...we managed to get him one present each but nothing fancy, didn't even have the money to buy wrapping paper or a card, and even though the OH loves what we got him and is at pains to reassure us he genuinely doesn't care, we can't help feeling guilty, which probably goes to show how much the marketing media get into our skulls with their ads I guess....
Each time I've gone outside to hang the clothes out, I've run back in covered in midge bites...it's that time of year up this way! Tried Mossi Guard, citronella oil, Skin So Soft, nothing works. I'm allergic to them too so get all lumpy and look dreadful, like a plague victim! The postie comes to the door and almost trips over his feet to back away so I must look catching, lol
A couple of months ago I had bought a paraffin lamp on Ebay, one of those metal kinds, and I filled it up this morning only to discover it's leaking out of the seam of metal going all around the rim.I wish I could find a reliable one of those. It was second hand but advertised as 'new' as it was in its rapper still and hadn't been used, and was a Blackspur one which I thought would be reliable.
Oh well....nothing to be done I guess.
But OS style, filled my other large paraffin lamp and the wee small ones and placed them at various places about the house so if we do run out of electricity, we'll have light. The nights are drawing in now and around nine it's starting to get dark. No street lights here of course, so unless the moon's out, it really is dark."Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0 -

The reason I ask is, that I used to be mega-plagued by biting insects, and was told that they go for lupus sufferers - apparently, we're particularly tasty to them! *rolleyes*
Anyways, in the same post (on a lupus website) was the theory that eating Marmite a lot puts them off (I gather it makes you not so tasty); I now have a teaspoon of Marmite every morning, and - touch wood - haven't been bothered anything like so much with being bitten.
Might be worth a try? Certainly can't do any harm.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
sorry that your BIL is so poorly JackieG chemo does knock the stuffing out of you.I will remember him tonight when I chat to the Big Guy upstairs
I don't know how true it is but supposedly rubbing whiskey on your skin deters the midges or failing that slurp a good dollop and then feel no pain
My DGS Danny has just texed me to say his smashing girlfriend has just heard from the metropolitan Police that she has passed all of her intervies and now only has her fitness to pass. She goes to the gym three times a week and is fairly fit so I have my fingers crossed for her.She is a dear little lass and will make a super policewoman its been her ambition since she was about 12 so I am really pleased for her
DD was o.k. at the dentists and has to have a crown fitted and four more fillings so then she will have a gleaming smile again.I treated her to the treatment as things are a bit tight in their house at the moment .She had to buy Jack (11) his new school uniform for 'big school and a jumper and blazer cost £50.Has to be bought in the school shop which is a bit of a whizz I think.
Henry (10) does his 11+ in a fortnights time and our 'baby' Mikey(7) goes into the Juniors next week where does the time fly to It only seems five minutes ago Mikey was going into Kindergarten.Well I can smell my bacon-wrapped chicken cooking so I'm off for some dinner
take care all

Red Doe, do you like Marmite?

I love Marmite! and will definately give it a go, can't hurt any and can't be any worse than overpriced midge repellants. Thanks for that tip.

Evening all
(((hugs))) to those in need x
I had my 2nd B12 jab today, this one really hurt! It was a different nurse this time. I drove myself there tooso amy definatly on the mend.
Today the work kids were meant to have a fun day and had planned on going to cinema to see The Inbetweeners, but when we got there the queue was massive and we were still in it 10mins after the start time so we gave up in the end cos we checked with an attendant and the cinema was fullbut in the end we went to Lazerzone and played 2 games there
I love going there, so much fun (and get to 'shoot' the kids who really annoy me
:rotfl:). My lovely army assistant is a trained sniper so he was in his element and so competitive! Everyone enjoyed
OS wise - need to make packed lunch, tea will be stirfry which was YS'd yesterday
Have a good day all

Delurking to post on this thread.Sorry to everyone with bad news and hello to everyone.
I made lentil soup today, cheese scones, cheesey bread, pizza bases and tea which was left over brisket with potatoes and gravy and frozen mixed veg. I also tried the bleach with bicarb method of cleaning for the shower last night, although as I didn't have bicarbonate of soda I improvised and used baking powder. The fumes were not good.
Also dug over an unused raised bed in the garden and planted some carrot seeds. My method of gardening is to put the seeds into a large pot or the ground and hope, which has brought mixed success.
I was trying to spend no money today and have enough food in for at least one more day but we are low on toilet roll and whilst enough for today, waiting until tomorrow means having to take my children to the shops and the youngest likes to make a break for freedom when we get there.0 -
