My theory as to why comparison sites exist is far less romantic than Premier's - they exist due to the fact that Thatcher sold off the energy industry to the highest bidders and we ended up with a pathetic excuse for an industry where confusion/subterfuge and, yes, downright dodging dealing is rife. Where there are literally thousands of different tariffs and all made intentionally impossible for the man in the street to compare them. Step forward those cuddly comparison sites who's sole aim in life is to get you to switch so they can trouser the ££££££s of kickback from the industry. How did we get to this??0

We have now found that communist command economy does not work, and neither does Reaganomics/Thatcherite free market economy.
It is now time for Pinchernomics. Everyone will be conditioned to love me, and your greatest joy will be to hear that I am pleased. By taking out the self-serving motive, which is the root cause of the failure of communism and capitalism, we will achieve a high efficiency society based on the beehive model.
As soon as I am declared supreme dictator, the entire country and eventually the Earth will be declared a conservation zone. All available resources, human and otherwise will be directed towards making this country a green and pleasant land.0 -

you say it was a nice price, what was a nice price? the price per kwh or the dd amount? did you compare this with other deals available from other companies by using a comparison site?0 -

I am pretty sure I said I had been looking for quotes on line (gave numbers etc) - why would I do that? well from the research i had painstakingly done for two hours the night before and not getting anywhere with a price that i was happy with - they quoted me for something that was goin to be £9 less in direct debit per month and it was going to be fixed for over a year. What is wrong in that? My current supplier I am in credit - so it sounds ideal to me, having checked individual companies, cash back sites and comparison sites.. what do you do yourself?0 -

First off, never accept a deal based on a dd price. Company representatives often offer lower than required dd's to entice a customer to join them. Did this deal you have been offered appear on comparison sites? If yes then was the price quoted as being the same.
The last thing you want is to be hooked in by a low dd price and then come 12 months time you are in debit because you havent been paying enough0 -

I got kwh price, this was lower than my current supplier. The fact that the dd price was lower and my existing supplier is currently in credit - this makes me think a lower dd amount would be beneficial. Having since looked up the direct site the price is quoted the same.
Comparison sites can be biased... you would need to look up exactly all the companies quoted and on their own site individually to make sure they weren't cheating with the comparison against other comps, but if you ask me.. when you get offered lower in all aspects to be considered when changing company if thats not good enough for anyone.. what is?0 -

A comparison site accredited by the correct industry body wont be biased.
Providing you have done all them checks then well done for getting a good deal. The reason why i asked more about this at first you implied you had signed up for the company as the dd was £9pm cheaper.
But well done for getting a good deal0
