MSE News: Escape BT contracts & beat price rises

I'm quite concerned now . I have been waiting for this official "email" about the rises so I can escape. I received my e bill via email last week with a deeply buried link to a handout talking about rises . Does this mean my ten days have lapsed
, or is there an actual "price rise " email due in October ..?
Quite possibly yes. What counts as "official notification" however is vague, most likely deliberately so. But if it was last week, your ten days might not yet be up...urs sinserly,

Just to let you all know , I received my bill via email , there is a buried link to the bt update magazine showing the price rise info. I called bt and explained i had read the link and was cancelling as per the terms and conditions , they were fine with it and said they will waive the termination fee . Thanks to Mse for pointing this out .0

What would happen if like me I also have BT broadband. I thought it required BT home line as well. Would I be allowed to cancel the home line then get hammered for having to cancel the broadband early?

Depends on your package. I don't think BT do broadband without having BT line rental, so quite possibly. If yours is one of the packages listed in BT Update, you should be fine.urs sinserly,

Some good info here! Great! Eagerly awaiting my bill today so I can cancel asap!
This is the important part to quote from BT's T&Cs:
If we make a change to the price or the terms and conditions of a service which is to your material disadvantage, you will not have to pay a charge if you decide to end that service early, unless the Tariff Guide says otherwise. However, once we have told you about such a change, you must let us know that you want to end that service within 10 days. This agreement will continue to apply to any other services that are not affected by any changes that we make.
The final sentence definitely indicates that if you are in a bundle, and one part of it is affected, then that means you can cancel the whole thing free of charge.
Best of luck all.0 -

Unfortunately that's not the case. If any of the services haven't increased in price, then you can't cancel those services. I'm trying to cancel both our BT landline (line rental saver ends tomorrow) and the Broadband Option 2 with Weekend Calls (£18) 18month contract ending in June, and am being told because the price of the broadband+calls package isn't changing we can't cancel it.
I didn't think BT could provide broadband unless you also had the line rental paid to BT, but it would appear not. So we are free to move the phone line elsewhere, but not the broadband without paying an exit fee as stipulated in the Tarriff Guide. Quite what would happen to the calls bundle if we move the line rental to someone else, I don't know!Cider Country Solar PV generator: 3.7kWp Enfinity system on unshaded SE (-36deg azimuth) & 45deg roof0 -
That is bad news sly dog. I see from the link that juicyjesus posted that the option 2 bundle is missed out of the increase. I am on Option 1 unlimited weekend calls Which has gone up so I am hopeful I can cancel as soon as I get my email/bill0

If your BB/Calls package is increasing in price, then you should be able to cancel. Fingers crossed for you Matty.Cider Country Solar PV generator: 3.7kWp Enfinity system on unshaded SE (-36deg azimuth) & 45deg roof0
