I don't suppose it helps that I am applying On-Line
Give it a try. If they can prove your ID electronically they won't ask for any further proof of ID. I've not been asked to provide any for years, which is a good job since I don't have passport, driving licence, etc.

Well, if you are not in receipt of any state benefits and not registered with HMRC, it does beg a few questions...;)

As Stompa says, if you apply online, electronic checks (electoral register, credit reference agencies) usually suffice. Don't tell me... :rotfl:

I can confirm that provided a provisional driving license is in date, with a valid photo, and the address printed on it is your current address, Santander will accept it on its own without another document.

It's just as difficult identifying yourself to Halifax although they coughed £50 in compo when I pointed this out so try them instead.
It appears a credit card is what's needed if you want to succeed in being identified electronically by banks but that's probably a catch 22 situation, unless you can get one with your current bank.

Thanks too cing0, I have a credit & debit card from my own Bank, the person I spoke to went away (presumably to speak to some-one) but I wasn't offered any alternative suggestions to their List.

Guess I'll sit tight for the moment........ or go an a huge booze up.

And what questions does that beg? In fact the OP didn't say they weren't "registered with HMRC". They pointed out that when you pay your tax (under the higher rate threshold) via PAYE you don't necessarily get statements from HMRC.

AIUI a provisional licence is not generally accepted as proof of ID, you have to pass the test to prove who you are!

That used to be the case but now that the procedure for obtaining a provisional licence has tightened up and you have had to prove who you are in order to get one, it is now accepted.

However, why spend money on buying a piece of paper/card which is of no use to you for its real purpose? For some the cost of the provisional licence could offset the interest received on their modest savings.

I've got £XX,000.00 that no Bank seems to want
I have a credit & debit card from my own Bank
Why not pay the cheque in to your current account there and open a savings account with them?

Does anyone think any of this presents a serious difficulty to a real money launderer?

    He probably uses : http://www.fakeutilitys.com/index.html
