If the thread is genuine I would guess that the truth is that Cardew probably hit the nail on the head - your bills said the money was being collected even though you knew full well that it wasn't & you therefore hoped to get away with it.

Had you come & posted that I wouldn't necessarily blame you for trying your luck personally.

Had you said you'd failed to notice for a month I'd have believed that potentially plausible too but to say you didn't notice what was in & going in & out of your bank for an entire year just doesn't ring true at all.

You say that you are looking for information & convention / the norm but this is an unconventional situation, there is no "norm" (energy being supplied on offered & accepted terms, used & paid for in full is the general norm). Can I therefore ask in what way do you feel that a 25% discount is an unreasonable resolution to this situation / to rephrase an earlier question, if not a 25% discount, what kind of offer would make you happy?

    If the thread is genuine

Given that the OP hasn't posted for a couple of days we can only speculate whether the facts are true or not.

In the case that the facts are true the supplier (apparently) stopped collecting from the correct bank account but continued crediting the energy account. Were the funds being collected from somebody elses account? Who knows, but if so there is a second "victim" unaware for over 12 months.

My (hypothetical) "consumer-centric" position is a supplier in error must be held to account. From what I can remember of the thread (not going to check) the 25% discount roughly correponds to the outcome had the Billing Code been applicable, so a "fair" outcome. I also believe in such a (hypothetical) case that easy payment terms should be offerred. Not sure what I would consider "fair". Perhaps over a year?

Anyway I won't see further posts from the OP.
