Is there a red light camera at the junction in question?

If so write a quick freedom of information act letter to the relevant camera partnership asking if they have captured any offences for your vehicle at that time, and if the camera was active and (if applicable) had film in it, at that time.

I'd just check if there is a red light camera and if there is just reply that the other party's claim is untrue as you did not receive a NIP for passing a red light and then reversing. Let them prove whether the camera was active or non-active at the time.

That's actually quite clever and making the other parties insurer work for the alleged "claim".

That would have been my backup plan if the response from the camera partnership wasn't what I wanted to hear :)

... Do I have any comeback on my insurers for leaving it so late to tell me of the exact details of the other party's claim?....

Not really - disputed liability does take a long time to progress, and 4 months and more isn't an unusual delay.

Your problem may be if you want to change insurers at renewal, as this looks like it will be "open" at the renewal date.

If you do go elsewhere, then get them to agree that if the matter is resolved as 100% in your favour that any premium adjustment will be backdated to the new policy start date, and you will be refunded any difference in the premium.

Another example where an in car video camera would have been invaluable...... "look I did not reverse at all"

    This story really frustrates me.

Unfortunately it has 50/50 written all over it.

I wish you luck with the red light camera route.

^^ There's no 50/50 about it, rear end collision, 3rd party hasn't a leg to stand on... 3rd party insurer just trying it on.

They may or may not be trying it on, but do have an "opposite" story which will need to be disproved otherwise it does have a chance to end up 50/50.

A witness would be useful if they could be found!

Sadly very true, increasingly necessary these days.

I'm going with this solution once my windscreen mount arrives.
