photos don't use up much space compared to the size of modern drives, hope you've backed them up?

Ever dealt with Acer support, or PC World?
Acer support are in Banbridge Co Down last time I spoke to them.
Pc World a bunch of !!!!! who gonna refer you to Acer anyway.
Acer screens mmmm, I sold quite a few Acers last christmas,, cheap entry level kind,,, one faulty screen actually on a emachine but same difference.
I tell it as it is, I do not work for Acer or hate dell, but aftersales warranty programs specs for price and lifespan I think Acer beat Dell.0 -

Funny, everytiem I have rang dell support I have got through to English speaking, well trained staff, in the UK, who have bent over backwards to get the problem sorted out ASAP (usually a guy arriving with new board or engineer to perform the fix) the next day.
Cant fault the phone side. Email side sucks, but phone service excellent I find.
You can pick up a second hand dell lattitude d630 for around 200-250 with a large hard disk, and plenty memory, screen size 14.1 but built like a tank to last a long long time.
Some come with XP, some with Vista, if you see one that you like with Vista, ask the seller if they can put XP on instead, many (but not all) will be able to do it quite easily.
That way, you can spend the 'saving' from you 400 on memory sticks/blank dvd's and external drives to make LOTS of backups of your photo's and videos.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
Where the call centre is doesn't enter my list of worries when buying kit - if the quality is good, then the buyer will never have to call them, price/value is far more relevant than native languages of call centres.!!

Agreed, I've just bought the 3rd Dell laptop in our home &, touch wood, have never had to speak to anyone of any language to sort out a problem. I'd recommend them any day of the week...What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0 -

Just an update
Acer support/repairs are now based in Plymouth and the telephone call support is an Indian call centre somewhere.0 -
Plus there have been a number of threads on here recently about Acer laptop screens breaking, and the problems getting them fixed under warranty.
How about Dell's Vostro 3550? Spec-wise they're cheaper than the equivalent Inspiron 15Rs, and have a matte screen instead of a glossy one (meaning you won't worry about reflections as much). Basic 3550 is £299 + VAT + shipping, although you can get 10% Quidco cashback. One thing to bear in mind (from memory) is that Dell's business PCs can't be returned under the DSR, as they technically only sell them to businesses (although the only thing they do is ask for a business name, nothing else).
I had an older Vostro and in the 2 years I had it it had had two batteries and I only kept it for another year by having to constantly have it plugged in and having to stick something round the cable as that kept falling out.
OH had a Dell XPS and that broke in two years after hard disc failure.
This morning customer service rang OH as it was a business laptop he had and he was been given some sort of business service. He was very difficult to understand and yes it did seem to be an Indian Call Centre. I had to keep telling him that OH didn't have that laptop anymore....
Dell used to be good I still have my 2004 desktop and OH's other Dell Laptop he had a a fair few years ago before giving it away is still going strong.
As someone else said on here it's a case of choosing the best of a bad lot. Apparently Laptops aren't supposed to last any more than 3 years now.0 -
you could have had the same hard disk or battery in any number of brands - both effectively consumables, and wobbly connectors are also commonplace, but usually caused by misuse/accidents.!!
