The full to empty fuel policy is hard to avoid in much of Spain, but is less of a disadvantage if you are hiring for 2 weeks rather than 4 days.0

I recall hiring an Argus car in Spain last year, and it was pretty much a clapped out heap with wobbly steering.
I find Autoreisen to be reasonable.0 -
We booked through Car Jet and luckily it was with Centuro and we were offered full or empty at the airport. I would certainly use them again as it was hassle free.
We also had our own cdw insurance .
Word of warning of warning my son booked through a third party and when they arrived they did not have a car for them which was supposed to have been a Hertz hire. I thought at the time his quote was very cheap for a Hertz car.
When they arrived hertz said they did not have a car for them and gave them what turned out to be an old van type.
As they had a toddler they refused to take it as they felt it wasnt safe. All credit to Hertz they gave him an upgrade and free petrol but they were lucky.
The booking was not hertz fault. They were just giving him one in the price range he had paid for. So beware if you think it is cheap you might not end up getting what you asked for.0 -

Hello everyone, again I'm in a very similar situation, just doing a bit of research need to hire a car but only need it for 5 days in October from Alicante airport, never gonna use a full tank. So will I be best to find somewhere that supplies a full tank but then wants it back with a full tank of fuel?0

Avis @ Alicante have now stopped Full - Full from what I can gather.
We purchased last year via Budget with Full-Full . The lady on the return desk said they were now set up for Full- empty and had do some extra work to check ours was full. she said I must have booked a while back cause they now did not need to check most returns.
Your right about this being a rip off. In USA and Canada it is always purchase a tank of fuel on arrival, but at least the fuel was always market price.
Try https://www.travelsupermarket.com and then compare. Most car rental companies will get a bad review.
So far hired with National and Avis is Alicante without problems or being ripped off. Like I have posted elsewhere avoid Goldcar like the plague. Check with a third party broker before purchasing ( on the phone if you have to) . DO NOT USE IF THE HIRING COMPANY IS GOLDCAR
As for third party excess insurance we always use https://www.insurance4carhire.com and I can recommend them .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Just a quick post on this, please don't book with Dickmanns (Alicante airport) they are a nightmare. They take money from your CC with alleged damage and then never return your correspondance when you challenge them. They are a disgrace!0

We have been on our hols and had no problems what so ever with : ECONOMY CAR HIRE , and the car was with centurian, got to alicante airport went to the centurion desk, signed all the forms they took 70 euros for the full tank of petrol ( which fter a week returned with less than a quarter so was fine for us ) 24 euros for a car seat for the week, and held 300 euros for deposit, we then went to the third floor of the car park to find we had been upgraded for free, which was nice, then was told they knew alla bout the marks and scratches on the car, i soon said no sorry i want it all marked down, so the sales asst let me go off and mark it all down on the invoice, and go back to her for to sign it off, which i felt fine about. when we returned the car the guy looked around th car and said my 300 euros will be returned within 2 days , and YES it was,
Couldnt fault these guys 1 bit, I will def be usong these again when we need car hore abroad 10/10
Oh and i took out the extra ins for £12 as i thought it was worth it, but didnt have to claim so no problemsDont forget that little Thanks button , only takes a sec0
