I'd go for BA from ABZ, no travelling to and from EDI, easy transfer at LHR T5 and takes you to BCN T1 and not T2 which ryanair use.

In my experience with Ryanair you should book asap. Never lost out this way ... altho they do have offfers on saving for online check in etc, my advice would be to buy so you have the correct dates. BTW Barcelona is very busy around this time for the festival so look at deals as they may be better now. Booking.com will offer cancellable rooms without charge

Er NO. Ryanair tend to to release the flights at a higher rate than they sell for later because people who MUST hit a particular date panic and book
ASAP. One flight I've just booked for October was 12 Euro's (total) but the same flight on the same day of the week in March 2012 is 45 Euro's.
Monitor the price but a long way in advance is usually not usually the cheapest.
Unless it's a VERY popular time 6-8 weeks in advance is often the best deal.

Generally for non peak demand dates the best time to book is 6 to 8 weeks b4 travel
    HOWEVER!
Some flights around those dates are already "TAX FREE"

The 6 JAN is not. Probably popular with those returning from xmas + new year in Spain.
I really don't think there will be much play in the price, downwards.

As your dates are fixed, £105 really isnt a bad price IMO
