Buying a TV ... Advice needed..

I'm looking to a buy a TV for my new apartment...
Plasma or LCD?
It's only going to be used for TV and movies, DVD at the moment, but upgrading to a Blu Ray player. Possibly a Wii now and again, but more for party games than hardcore gaming
With a budget of about £600
Any suggestions or advice?

You haven't said what size you are looking at but you can't go far wrong with Panasonic such as this http://www.richersounds.com/product/lcd-tv/panasonic/viera-txl42e30b/pana-txl42e30b0

PC World and Curry's are doing another Panasonic for £399.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004U9DC9S/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE (Amazon's dispatch time is ridiculous - I've only linked to it because I had that link stored).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Yeah you tend to get better picture quality on larger screens with a a plasma. LCD's can look slightly blurry on fast moving images & the blacks are never as good as on a plasma.
I dont think I'm able to post links but if you type lcd vs plasma in google you will find a good write up on the pros & cons of both on the techradar site (was the 3rd result down when I searched).0 -
Watch a camera panning across a football/rugby field on a plasma and observe the vertical white lines briefly turning to a prism i.e. red, blue, green, yellow - thats enough for me to not buy a plasma and buy an LCD panel.0

I recently bought the one below (although sods law,the price is lower now than when I bought it,I paid £429!) & cannot fault it one bit.The picture is almost perfect even on SD,in fact some times the SD programmes look as good as HD! I can connect my laptops USB External HD to the TV & watch my movies, look at my pictures & listen to music.I can also hook up my lappy to it as well & use it like a monitor.
It's dead easy to set up & use & I also now run my surround sound thru the TV instead of the Sky HD so I don't need to use the TV's speakers at all, even tho the sound from them is quite good.
My neighbor below bought a 40in Panasonic for the same price I paid for the Samsung & his SD picture, compared to mine,is terrible even thru HDMI.

And if you look at the same TV in Curry's & Dixons, the price for the same TV varies quite a bit.0 -
HD Ready or Full HD? We'll no doubt be buying a Blu Ray player0
