It's a holiday. That's the point. You do what you want and skip what you don't. If you are staying in a place where there are cleaners, why should you clean up?

I have no intention of making my bed or rinsing out the bath at any of the hotels I stay at. They have people for that.

Don't know what hotels/apartments you stay in, but i don't expect a cleaner to come clean the bath out after every single use, i expect the kids and myself to rinse it when they've done ready for the next user.
my point was to leaving some dangerous glass they broke on the floor for 3 days and blame the hotel for it

I am a lazy holidayer - so lazy we can't even be bothered flying now- we discovered cruising 4 years ago and have never looked back - we drive to the dock, get out of the car, our luggage is whisked away for us and arrives at our cabin door

the thought of schelpping to the airport now fills me with dread - all that trying to squash all your lovely ironed clothes into a suitcase that can only weigh 15 or 20 kilos - our luggase allowance is 200kilos - which my hubby swears I try to beat every year !

we do a lot of exploring and walking when we are in port - I suffer from malignant melonoma so I can't sunbathe - so sight seeing is our pleasure

I do wash out the shower and the sink though and wouldn't leave broken glasses lying around!

I do expect a cleaner to do the bathroom each day (I don't have kids, so I see your point as appropriate for YOUR family), and had I found broken glass on the floor, I would have called the desk to let them know it was there so it could be safely disposed of. If you just chuck it in the bin, there is a risk the cleaner might then cut themselves on it while emptying your bin, you see?

My holiday is next month, and will involve over 2000 miles of driving around North and South Carolina to see friends and visit places. I will do that because I choose to. I will not worry about leaving a dirty cup in a hotel because I don't need to.

I personally can't bear the thought of sitting by a pool for two weeks, or ignoring local culture, but the choice is up to the individual.

Personally i've never understood these people don't spend all day every day around the pool. And the rare occassions they do go out they stay within 100yrds of the hotel.

I remember many years back we went on a family holiday, our neighboroughs went to the same place a week or so later, their hotel was different but about 50 yards apart, another 50 yards away was a huge gated boat yard/arena (not sure what its called now) with spectacular looking boats (and rich people) -- we said to them after they got back 'what did you think of the boats in the arena?', they responded 'what arena? was it far away?'. The questions that followed went in a similar way :surprised:

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against people relaxing/chilling out, but to me a holiday is not just about lazing about on a sunbed. But exploring a new area, new culture, trying different restaurants, foods, doing new activities suchas boat trips which you wouldn't usually do at home.

But we're all different I guess.

we are all different and that's why it's not really fair for anyone to imply that people who want to do things differently as being lazy. It means they are having the holiday they want and doing the things they enjoy and that is up to them.

When I get on holiday, all I want to do is sit round the pool or beach relaxing, catching up on reading some good books which is something I don't have time for the rest of the year. I am not one for exploring the sights unless it's a city break. Wandering around looking at rich people's toys is not up there on my holiday to do list!

100% agree. I thought the whole point of being on holiday WAS to be lazy? Sight-seeing really depends on where you are, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with doing nothing. I'll keep my accommodation clean and treat the area with respect, but as for everything else, I leave it to the cleaners. That's what they're employed to do afterall.

The people doing those reviews can't take their brains with them, Easyjet charge for the weight of brains.
  • To even up the balance can I just say that I try my best to be lazy all the time, not just on holiday :-D

Its a tough job but someone has to do it.

    At least you're consistent :D

I'm generally a sightseeing and activities guy while I'm on holiday. However there is no way I'm gonna clean up, wash clothes or cook unless I'm going away for more than 3 weeks. I wouldn't go on holiday to do the things I do at home, otherwise I might as well just stay at home.
  • I have every intention of being lazy on holiday!!! I have worked hard and saved hard to buy a holiday where people will, cook and clean for me.

I do think I could manage to pick up some broken glass tho!!

When i go on holiday i like to relax some days and do some sightseeing throughout the time i am there. If we are staying in a hotel i do clear up after myself and encourage my child to do so as well. However, i do not expect to go on holiday and be cooking and cleaning as i feel i do enough of this during the year and deserve a break.
I suppose everyone enjoys different types of holidays.
