I've just got to say that my local Morrison are great. I think it depends on which branch it is. Attitude and quality of Customer Service comes from above.
I have complained in the past about bad service, but equally I have sent letters when the assistant has gone beyond the call of duty.
  • i work in a supermarket all day i get people moaning at me for the most stupid in the end i think why should i bother being nice to people when they just talk and look at you like you are something they have stood on,
i think really you should get a grip, theres more important things in life then a sales assistant

But why stop being nice just because a few are ignorant or moany. Not all customers are the same, just as not all cashiers are. Give the customers the benefit of the doubt. Don't stop being nice just because the previous customer was narky.

I've worked as low level management in a supermarket and for cashiers like that to be dealt with, customer services have to be told. It's a hard enough job when you have say 12/15 cashiers to be supervising, you can't have eyes everywhere. If you complain they will be dealt with.

In my time I've been a supermarket cashier, a department store cashier, a customer service manager for many years, and various jobs inbetween!

Knowing what good service should look like, it irritates the hell out of me when I have an experience like the OP.

We have all had miserable beggers to deal with, usually on a daily basis, but that is no excuse for lack of manners, which this was.

If this happens to me, I just wait. Eventually you get their attention. This is usually followed by 'could you point me in the direction of the Customer Service Manager?' and smile. :)

    Then breathe.
You can't have everything.........where would you put it?

Hope you are feeling a bit better OP

slightly off the subject, but I always feel rather peeved when cashiers have visible colds and blow their nose in between scanning the food.... Just wrong.

Nice attitude. Perhaps if you greeted people with a smile and asked how they were once in a while customers wouldn't be so rude. There are good and bad everywhere. Lots of people are idiots. It offends them if you are nice to them. It also make them look stupid in front of everyone else.
Supermarkets are sometimes the only human contact people get,for example, if they are elderly or if they live alone, with no nearby family. How hard is it to crack a smile and look as if you care?

Trouble is, in this financial climate people are afraid to call in sick for fear of losing their job, so they'll go in ill.

  • I would definately complain, if you know day and time and where the till was then they should be able to find out who it was. I used to work in a newsagents and people would hang around to chat, but I always gave my customers my full attention.

As for working with a cold, if the food is sealed it should be fine. I always used to work when I had a cold, and if customers complained I would tell them to take it up with management because if I went if sick I did not get paid and I was below the threshold for SSP.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
  • In my local Morrisons which has recently been revamped, I'm sure the staff have been retrained too, as they have become more polite, more friendly on the till. It makes all the difference.
