I've had this happen to me once that I remember. It peeved me too. I wished i'd just dumped my stuff and walked off. She might've noticed me then!
The majority of time I seem to get nice ones though. One time I was at a self-service till in Tesco. It wasn't busy and I was talking to the lady who 'hovers'. I picked up my stuff in the bags, put them in the trolley and walked off. Before I reached the door I realised I hadn't paid and ran back in for fear of being taken up for shoplifting. Maybe somewhere in the middle would be ideal - not being totally ignored and not being so engrossed that you forget what you're doing.0 -
How rude! That would really annoy me.
In my local Tesco on Saturday, the girl at the basket checkout was taking ages and ages because she was chatting with a customer and the queue was quite long...people behind me - and I was next - were complaining. She really needed someone to have a word, ie. when it's busy you don't needlessly chat but work instead.
One thing I've noticed also is people who won't stop their mobile phone conversation when they get to the checkout, blithely ignoring the store assistant.. I think that's pretty ignorant, too.
Or, worse, have you ever gone into a corner shop to buy something and the person is on the phone, chatting, while trying to serve you at the same time?I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

Doesnt matter how much one gets paid no need to be rude or ignorant, in fact I find being chatty breaks the day up. I done crap jobs in past but still found time to be polite and chatty. Okay you get rude customers too often they calm day if they had a bad day if you dont be rude back. There are times when you do get a really bad xxse customer but they are few and far between.
I agree it works two ways though, its ignorant walking around with phone glued to ear at checkout unless its urgent of course. You also get ignorant customers that have a bad day or chip on there shoulder and for some reason want to take it out of the staff.
My OH works at a supermarket and she gets them all time, most are fine but odd one seems to get delight making life horrible for them complain when there really isnt nowt to complain about.0 -
The problem with many retail staff, especially the young are working in retail as a stopgap, funding for uni/college. They aren't fully dedicated to their job as someone who wants to progress in retail - such as me.0

So true. I had a customer the other week that stormed to customer services because I touched her trifle! !!!!!! How am I supposed to scan something without touching it! The only way she could prevent this was going through self scan.0 -

lol seriously, never had anyone do that on me or seen anything like it,0 -
I'm used to not expecting customer service in Morrisons, they must be the worst out of all the supermarkets. Even Lidl are friendlier and they have targets to push people through the checkouts as quick as they can.0

This is so true, both of which i cannot stand.
And OP, thats terrible, i would have tapped her on the shoulder and asked if her manager knows she ignores customers, im pretty sure she is told not to talk to others when serving. :cool:0 -
I think personally its getting worse and i'm not really sure the shops really give a monkeys if we do complain, or if they do they don't seem do anything about it. On the occasions I have complained about bad service nothing seems to have been done that I know of.
While I was in Morrisons on Sunday while stood waiting for my receipt to be printed the young lad serving me was using his phone underneath the counter i'm not even sure whether he even thought about how bad it looked or whether he just didn't care.0
