presents for a 9 year old

My son turns 9 soon, ot really sure what to get for him.

I asked him what he wanted and he said lego, so I have one idea but not sure what else, I normally get him a coat, boring I know lol.

I am thinking of an ipod touch, anyone know of any deals on them?

My son when he moved on from lego he was given k'nex, which he still plays with aged 11.5 it just gives a bit more scope for building things.

Ipod touches are very expensive and Apple seem to rarely allow deals on their products. If he likes Lego then why not get him what he wants. The Kinex stuff is very good though, and a bit more advanced.

Is he into music? How about an ipod shuffle...around £35 and fine for younger kids..easy to use.

If you do decide to go for the ipod touch...you should just get the most basic one (8GB) - my son (8) has this and it's fine for all he uses it for. They are fab though....;)

If he wants lego then get him lego. He's probably old enough for some of the more advanced sets - think there are kits that can build robots and stuff these days...

My son is 11 and he loves lego, he spends hours making things and they are very impressive:D he has moved on to the bigger box sets like the aeroplanes and the boats but a word of caution do not get ones that are too big and have far too many pieces, we bought him one which ended up on ebay because he really could not do it and it overwhelmend him, it was a star wars one and it was too much for him.:D

I would get him what he has asked for, Lego sounds like an ideal present. :-)

I am getting lego, I was more looking for other things too.

He has a shuffle, but its limited to just music.

Look on ebay especialy for the older models they sell them a lot cheaper than apple shop ever will as they seem inflexible to their prices, it will be treasures wherever it came from and amazon do fab deals on lego, so do tesco, the other day they had £10 off some ofthe big lego sets.:D

  • hes 9 years old! why the bloody hell would he need an ipod? he is asking for a toy that will stretch his imagination, teach him planning/thinking skills etc, and instaed your thinking of getting him an electronic device that will not do any of these things. i love my ipod, dont get me wrong, but at 9? seriously?
  • If he's happy with lego and simpler things then I would stick to that sort of thing, no need to go for expensive extravagant gifts before he feels a want/need for them...If you start with an ipod touch at 9 what will he want/expect when he turns 16 or 18??

Do you have a Hawkins Bazaar or similar shop near where you live? My stepson at 9 liked the circus toys etc that they do (things like the diablo) or even the retro toys like space hopper. They're fun things that don't cost a fortune.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

I would agree with others about the ipod touch - if he's not asking for one, don't bother getting him it. Wait until he's interested in getting one.
