Buy a baby

Good luck with the planning of a baby. We're in the same boat. In fact a lot of people seem to be. People keep telling me, if you wait till you are financially secure, you'll never have one.
I've decided to wait until our fixed rate is up in April 2008 and fix the mortgage for as long as possible, so we know what position we will be in with that. I know I'm almost debt free, but our mortgage seems to be huge in comparison to a lot of peoples on here, so once you cut out my wage, that's gonna be the big problem (I earn slightly more).Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Hi Pollyanna- yeah ive been told the 'no such thing as financially secure' thing too, in fact if i had a penny for every time i heard it i could probably wipe off a cc!!
I guess like you and I have done is set what level we thing is OK for us to deal with debt wise. For me no credit cards and for you a better mortgage rate.

Hi Chicken noodle. Just wanted to say your plans sound good and I hope you can stick to it. I am so in the exact position as you are and reading this thread, has really brought it more to the forefront of my mind, so thank you. Although my aim is to be pregnant before the year end, I am 31 and leaving it nearly another 2 years until I've paid my debts off is just leaving it way too late. Especially if I want another one after that. (by the way, duncan is my cat, not a child!)
So all the best of luck.

Do you know that asda have a coin sorter machine where you just take all your coppers/five pences ect and throw them in? you dont have to pre-count them, it does it for you and then prints you out a receipt for the amount. You can either use it off your shopping or take it to customer services and get the cash for it. Alternatively, if you go to self scan at asda or tesco and just take a handful with you each time you can soon rid yourself of them.
Good Luck on the baby front, my partner and I are expecting our first in less than a month. Weve found ebay a godsend, were collecting a specific range from mothercare so always look on ebay for the items and have a sell before we buy rule. The nursery is now finished and looks amazing. Weve also bought nappies/baby wash everytime they come on offer in the supermarket. So it neednt be as expensive as you think.
Wishing you all the best in sorting out your debts, paying them off one by one is an amazing feeling, we still have a long way to go but are safe in the knowledge that our little one wont ever have to do without, if we tackle it now. You should be proud of yourselves.:T0 -
My mum in law really helped everytime she went shopping she added one thing to the basket ie baby bath, talc, wipes etc so we had a lovely bundle of stuff to help us.Sealed pot challenge 822

I seem to remember getting charged for those coin things or has that changed- anyhow have been living off the change jar this week for petrol and stuff so that i dont spend other money. May keep hold of my change as it may come i useful.
Cant wait until i can actually start thinking about getting all baby bits but for now must focus on the credit cards.
Things arent looking too peachy right now as my target is to knock off another £500 next week, but Im not even sure how to get through the next few days. Why does everything seem so hard sometimes??
We are going to have to buy cement to sort out our fence (a victim of the crazy winds) as our neighbour is being a grumpy old so and so and keeps giving us a hard time about it (although it is actually his boundary- we just put the fence up because he kept walking into our garden!!!)

Ok an update.
Walk out of come yesterday- feel so relieve, was treated really badly adn it was really getting me down. so start a new temping job on Mon with an extra pound an hour too so its all turned out better.
Which gives me a few days to sort some stuff out and reassess my plans.
Have been also stressing about not paying enough off my credit cards, so I want to go over it all and see if i can make it more managable without putting the date back too much.
On the plus have got an eve cleaning job -£50 a week for an hour a night and will make sure this always goes straight off the credit card!!!
Tasks for today and tomorrw-so i dont waste it away
- Update spreadsheets and redesign targets
- Do meal plan for next week and make stuff in advance
- Apply for 3 jobs
