Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 29th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great & inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
I forgot to alter my alarm so it woke me up at 5:30, I'm making a cuppa & trying to get back to sleep for an hour as I'm still tired from looking after DGD yesterday.
Plans for today include getting everthing done that I didn't manage yesterday along with some ironing & baking.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning everyone.
Weather here is still a bit grim so no outdoor work today.
I was going to make bread but haven't enough electric in the meter for the oven so that'll have to wait. Maybe I should look at building some kind of emergency bread oven outdoors? have the space, just not the know-how..
Hope everyone enjoys the Bank Holiday and takes it easy."Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0 -
Morning all,
Heard DGD shuffling about in her cot at 5.15 so I jumped up to grab a cuppa before she gets up. She then fell back to sleep. Oh well at least I've got the BM & WM going. DH & I will drop her back home on our way to Bath to continue work on DD1's bathroom. Made DH Chick sarnies, quiche & apple for his lunch, I don't want anything.
Must shop when we get home and sort out what to have for dinner, will rumage through the bursting freezer.
Welcome back Jackie O, glad you had a good holiday even though the house was pants.0 -
Morning everyone. just wanted to give Lou some huge hugs as its a really tough time you're going through sweetheart. Love from all of us to you.
Also wanted to come on and give NPM hugs too - know what you're going through with DS (didn't think FB was the right place!). My DS is also violent, not to me unless by accident (yet). But lots of kicking out, throwing and hitting his younger brother. I'm afraid to say that the only thing we have found that works with him is a quick smack - it seems to make him stop and draw breath for a moment and in that moment we can get in with the words, hugs or whatever and reason with him. But I agree it is not something that I want to continue.
I didn't find Behav supp much good to be honest - lots of telling him that this is how we behave / this is what is acceptable, but nothing seems to work when the red mist is down. Found a book - Volcano in my tummy which is supposed to help them think of the anger in a different way.
Morning everyone else! Went to have my hair done on Friday and was told about a house (four houses away from us) that is for sale. Immediately booked a viewing and was told some very interesting things about another neighbour by the seller. Not controversial stuff (!!!) but there is a field behind our house that we would love to be able to buy, but this house for sale has the adjoining field and it was useful to discover that a separate offer had been made for the land by the other neighbour.
So we don't stand a chance in getting the field and staying where we are - if you follow this!!!!! So I've arranged a valuation and have been frantically decluttering and tidying up. Done our bedroom and bathroom and need to finish the hall and then on to the kitchen and dining room. Fingers crossed I'll get this done by Wednesday - better get off here and get on to it.
Love and hugs to all on this sunny but windy bank holiday.Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Good Morning x
Up with the lark or the bats:eek:
It was so dark this morning and im really noticing that the nights are drawing in.
Still the consolation is that comfort food is a necessity and to that end I have just had some Apple Crumble and a slither of Blackberry Yogurt Cake for breakfast. Then Im sat here wondering why I put a pound on this week? Seriously need to get back on track so I can lose my last 7lbs in time for Christmas.
I plan to organise some tidying up today as my dear cleaner is not here until Thursday. Then we are going to see the Inbetweeners at the cinema. My 15 year old son was telling me that he didn't think it was suitable family viewing for Kids Dad and I to watch:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Jackie O - hope you manage to get some satisfaction regarding the holiday house. I was dissatisfied with some aspects of my last stay at Centre Parcs and they took some money off my next holiday, next year :T:T:T.
Well I can hear movements upstairs so can now put some washing on. Hugs and good wishes for a good day xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

Morning all
Been a really busy weekend so far, so hoping for a bit of a chill out day today before back to work tomorrow. Friday had a funeral to attend, saturday had a wedding, yesterday met up with brothers and wives and went out, so today should possibly be spent pottering around the house and doing bits of jobs (unless I get a better offer lol)
Need to water the tomatoes etc this morning, as although we have had some rain, they are in pots so should be watered every day too but I have sadly neglected them this weekend. Lots of tomatoes ripening now, I had just about given up on them ever turning colour as it seems later this year, but they are all turning at once now.
I have been reading One Day too, just finishing it this morning, I was a little shocked at the twist too - didn't see that one coming!
Hugs to everyone who needs it - especially Lou
Have a good day everyone

Morning all,
Up at 7am as usual, peeped out through the bedroom curtains to check the weather as usual because it determines the day's routine instantly. More rain? Nope, there's sunshine!! Feels quite nippy round the edges but sun means an allotment morning. I usually do the main housework on Monday morning but I can't afford to miss an allotment day at this time of year as I might not get another chance this week. Plus normally I'd go up there on Sunday and get the veg for the week and I couldn't do that yesterday...allotments are not safe places in gale force winds. Ask me about the time my neighbour's glass cold frame came flying over the hedge at me....
Apart from that I've got some paperwork to do and the inevitable laundry. I will pop into Tesco on the way to the allotment too and see if they've got any of the reduced fruit pots and such they're chattering about on the grocery threads.
Dinner is the other half of the roast chicken we had last night, with baked potatoes and broccoli/carrots/peas from the lottie. The raspberries might be a little squelchy though after yesterday's rain so I'll get some greek yoghurt for these and make yoghurt fool.
Big hugs to all that need them. There's always something, eh? And for these of us who have quiet, boring, non-eventful lives atm...let's appreciate them while we've got them, eh?Val.0 -
Hi everyone. Lovely bright start here today but not enough washing to make up a load so I'll have to waste a good drying day. The house needs a bit of attention from the duster and the hoover, so I'll have to crack on with that. No bank holiday here; the next one for us is 1st November.
I'm not sure what to do for dinner tonight. I have a chicken which needs jointing for the freezer, so will probably use the breasts for a curry or something like that.
JackieO - hope you had a good holiday.
Didn't get a chance on here yesterday, so lots of hugs to those in need. Will have a read of the thread a bit later on.

Morning all,
HUGS to Lou and NPM.
Welcome back JackieO.
Didn't get to post yesterday as I was so busy but day out in London was fab on Saturday and the show was brilliant even though the leading man was "indisposed" and we got the understudy (he was great).:D
My DW has been on the blink since they came to change a part so I need to get the service engineer back to sort it out, lots of washing up in the meantime.
Tea tonight is chicken curry made from last nights left overs and there is still some blackberry and apple crumble left so we will have that as well as long as the children don't eat it for breakfast!
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0
