Hi all,
I'm not quite sure what to do or if I can even make a claim as my wallet was either miss placed or stolen i cant find it anywhere and last place I had it was in the park and i had just withdraw all my fortnightly money like i always do.
I have reported to police and canceled my bank card can I make a claim for lost/stolen money.
If your wondering how I got my money already for some reason or another my fortnightly monday benefit is always in my account on the Friday before.
So my question is can I make a crisis loan claim as my money was stolen?
Thanks in advance.

Ring them, as only a DM can decide that one.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0

You can try calling them, but they may well ask why on earth you withdraw the full amount from your bank account each time like you say you do.0

Good point. I think it depends on the benefit - for example, I can imagine 2 weeks JSA may need to be withdrawn, as 130 isn't going to go far, but if there are more benefits then you raise a good point.
I guess if the OP can prove that the full amount is drawn regularly over time, it may help. If it's just been drawn fully the odd time, they may struggle“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -
True, if it's just JSA I imagine it would be okay. But otherwise they might query how carrying a large amount of money around with you isn't exactly the most careful thing to do.
Good luck OP.0 -
My partner has had a crisis loan before for losing his wallet.
I'm not sure that the job centre is open today though so you might need to wait until tomorrow. All benefits that were due today were paid on Friday as it's a bank holiday today x0 -
Potentially yes, but be prepared for some difficult questions as to why you withdrew all the money in one go, and be prepared to account to the penny for any of that benefit you spent.
If you've applied for, and been paid for 3 Crisis Loans for spent/lost/stolen since April this year you won't be able to get one at all though.
Line opens at 8am tomorrow.0 -

That's a popular way of getting a crisis loan - losing your wallet or purse. Have you reported the loss to the Police? You used to need a reference number.0 -

OP said in the first post they have reported it to the police.0 -
you can try for a crisis loan, but they will not just replace the money you say is gone, they will pay out up to a maximum of 60% of your usual JSA payment and it will need to be paid back, mamimum of 3 in any 12 month period now.0

I thought that household contents insurance policies cover this sort of thing?
I know it covers goods and cards and also think it covers up to £1000 of money stolen.0
