richersounds

 I am so annoyed at Richersounds, after always recommending them on this forum, I have had the pleasure of visiting them today.
Armed with the latest Currys price, I travelled 30mile round trip to Richersounds in Leeds to buy (and yes I mean Buy, not look) an LG 3D TV, paid £3.50 to park and I was offered the princely sum of £10 discount.
I know I should have checked before I travelled but as Richersounds have always been a lot cheaper in the past (I have bought lots of items and recommended them to family and friends), I didn't expect the TV in question to be exactly the same price as Currys. Because it's not listed on their website and being a Bank Holiday, I expected the phones to be busy (hindsight is a wonderful thing).
Since I have got home I have found out that if I order the TV from Currys online and have it delivered free, I can actually get another 5% off, making the TV Blu ray deal £900.60 as opposed to Richersounds £939 to collect.
So should I be able to get the deal at Richersounds (who claim to beat shops and internet prices)? No Way :(
ML.

Aren't richer sounds supposed to be pretty good when stuff goes wrong? Because I'd rather pay an extra £39 to have peace of mind with somewhere like RS than cut costs and end up in a pickle when currys inevitably (if this board is anything to go by) blow up my house and replace it with an asbestos tent.

What was their reason for not price matching?

I've only had one thing go wrong with a product bought from Richersounds, a TV that was faulty from new which was changed straight away no messing.
I have though (and I've posted about it) had a Microwave that went faulty, bought from Currys at Christmas for a pressie, went wrong about six months later so we took it back to Currys and they just said "Would you like another or a refund", we took a replacement because that's what my son wanted. So, all in all, good experiences from both retailers with regard to faulty items.

They did price match, and beat by a tenner (very begrudgingly), but Richersounds are usually quite a bit cheaper, hence travelling there.
I have always made the trip to their shop because they have such better deals than any of the big 'sheds', but was just surprised that their price was actually the same price as Currys.
We would have bought the package if they had discounted the £40 lead that we were also about to buy from them, but I suppose wanting to spend near on £1000 wasn't enough for the salesman who was a bit patronising and couldn't care less whether we bought there or not.
I must also mention that (unusually) the Currys salesman was a lot more pleasant and obliging, the chap at Richersounds even said to us, "It may seem like I'm not interested, but I like the customers to have a 'mess' with the product themselves".
Although we weren't interested in buying this way, Currys also have Buy now pay 6 months, so a little more incentive for some people.

I don't see what you are moaning about to be honest. They beat the price by £10. Just because you wanted a bigger discount doesn't mean they are terrible if they don't give it to you.

richer sounds come into their own with the warranty, trust me. i had a philips tv go wrong a few years ago, needed resoldering, the warranty i bought cost me £25 and it was just after the normal 12 months, they sent it away, left an answering machine message telling me it was in (not many places actually do that) and it worked ever since, its still in warranty and goes round the family as a spare

Looking at the complaint another way... How cool that Curry's were better value than RS before RS begrudgingly undercut? The margin on thse things is so slim now thanks to the internet age, that there are deals to be had all round.

If they "only" beat currys by a tenner, it could well be that the margins right now are tiny. Moreso for a small outfit like RS than for a huge company like DSG, who really can exploit economies of scale.

I'm not surprised they didn't give a discount on the cable, because that's pretty much where they make the money. If you discount the cable, you may as well be giving the item to the customer for free.
