  • Margin, There's a thing called compassion - it applies here - please use it.
  • That thread is a bit of fun, not that I agree what people do when at rock bottom. But to demand it be closed/deleted is a little over the top.

Unfortunately some people have no other choice, this is life.

Yeah, you're right, it's criminal....I mean look at this I posted....

The story that sticks with me is fairly recent though, I was working the in court system a couple of years ago...a young lad of about 13/14 was brought in for stealing and criminal damage. He was upset and frightened and at first the magistrates were quite harsh in their questioning.

However as his story unfolded the police had found that he had stolen food from the local shop, some tins of beans, spagetti, stuff like that. When the police arrived at his address he had a fire burning in hs garden from fenceposts he had ripped out of some local fencing (criminal damage).

What the police found was that the lad had stolen the tins of food because his Mum had abandoned the family, he was the oldest, he has 3 younger siblings. He stole the food to feed them and he had made the fire in the garden to keep them warm and to try and cook the tins of food, the electric had run out days ago.....that was only a few years ago in 'modern britain'.

He was given an unconditional discharge and the court staff and police had a whip round to make sure he had a bit of money on him and the relevent support agancies were notified

Absolutely disgusting isn't it, that boy should have been locked up and the key thrown away....because what he did was stealing right?

Or do you look behind the action and see what really going on....or can't you bear to because it would require some patience, some compassion and some humanity?

I'm one of those who posted on that thread. To be honest, if sensible, rational people are so easily swayed by such posts that they really believe the thread is condoning breaking the law, then what can I say? Common sense has flown the roost maybe?
These are accounts of people for whom the absolute bottom was reached, many of whom had bairns, and if you have kids then I can tell you first hand there is nothing you won't do to make sure they don't go hungry and cold if need be.
All I would say is that if the thread offends you, feel free to report it, other than that, why not just simply not read it? There are many, many threads on this vast forum I bypass, some I know I will find offensive and some even disgusting (for example, what kind of person really wants to know everyone's bedroom habits, and why?) so I just ignore them.
Compared to some of the things that have been discussed on MSE, I think this other thread is small potatoes and see no reason why it shouldn't be left to die a natural death as it will over time. Although, I'm sure this thread here has probably sent a few readers it's way who might not otherwise have bothered.... ;)
