Hi all i am new to this so bare with me.
I thought i needed to warn ALL current and new owers of TOMTOM & IPOD'S for in car use.
On the 16th Dec i had my car broken into and lost my TOMTOM,IPOD,AND AROUND 20 CD'S.
I am fully comp insured (well i thought i was-lol).I am currently fighting with 'AXA' car insurance.I had my IPOD CONNECTED via a cable which is hard wired to my car stereo stystem.Which in my eyes is part of my in car enterment.(BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!!)
In the 'AXA' POLICY TERMS & CONDITIONS which i was given with my policy .On a page it says i am covered up to £500 loss for YOUR CAR FITTED FITTED NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT,CAR PHONES,RADIOS,CD PLAYERS,CASSETTE PLAYERS,GAMES CONSOLES & AND ANY OTHER AUDIO OR VISUAL EQUIPMENT.
The insurance company are TRYING to tell me that these items (IPOD,TOMTOM)COME UNDER THE PERSONAL BELONGS WHICH WILL ONLY PAY UPTO £100,and if i want to claim for more maybe i should clam under my home insurance for the loss.
As you can imagine this would go round and round if i tryed to clam for via my home insurance.
I am at the moment sicking to my guns and claming it on my CAR INSURANCE POLICY.
SO GUYS A WORD OF WARNING TO ALL,YOU NEED TO CHECK YOUR POLICEY DETAILS TO SEE IF YOU ARE COVERED FOR ANY LOSS IN CAR DETAILS WITHIN YOUR POLICY. AND IF YOU ARE ABOUT TO RENEW(OR CHECK WITH YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY )WHERE YOU STAND WITH THESE ITEMS.
I NOW KNOW NEXT TIME WHEN I DO RENEW MY CAR POLICY I WILL BE NAMING TOMTOM & IPOD AS PART OF MY INCAR AUDIO EQUIMENT/NAVIGATIONAL EQUIMENT.
Apart from all of this for me my clam has has been a nightmare from start to finish & i am currently speaking with the INSURANCE OMBUDSMAN RE THE MATTER.(I will not go on- but it comes to somthing when a engineer has been told that he has to go to do an esimite to my car on a certin day that was givien to him,i phone a week later to try and find out what is happening, then he tells me HE DOES NOT KNOW WHERE MY CAR IS!!!!!!.CONSIDERING THE INSURANCE COMPANY GIVE HIM THE INSTRUCTIONS ETC,I FIND IT VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND HAD I NOT MADE THAT CALL I WOULD STILL BE SITTING & WAITING ETC.I JUST FEEL RIGHT NOW I MIGHT AS WELL WORK FOR 'AXA' COS THEY HAVE NOT GOT A CUE!!!!!!!.

You leave an Ipod and a TomTom in your car when it's parked?0

Where's the Grabbit??? (Apart from what the thieves did!!)
The reason insurance companies don't cover high value personal possessions LEFT IN CARS is for this very reason - ie this is a high risk.
That's why you should NEVER leave such things in your car.
It has ALWAYS been the case that you have to claim for such losses on your house insurance. As a rule of thumb, if it's not a standard part of the car as fitted by the car manufacturer AND you haven't specifically listed it on your car insurance, it's not covered and never has been.
Not sure what your problem is here.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

those were my initial thoughts.
i can see the insurance company's point to be honest, but good luck with your case mr xmas.A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining and wants it back the minute it begins to rain.0 -

Why are you breaking your neck over this? You could spend months fighting (and, IMHO, getting wasted over) this; when your house insurance (assuming you, or your parents, or whoever owns the house you live in, have home and contents cover) will cover the theft without so much as a yawn. You won't even lose a no-claims bonus, because with house insurance there generally isn't one.0

Your personal property may well be covered under you home contents insurance rather than your vehicle insurance. Check which one gives you the most cover and then only claim on that insurance as you will not usually be settled twice.
Check your other policies!0 -
As tibellina said, but I was looking for AXA T&C's while she posted her comment and beat me to the posting........0

I was just popPing round to see a mate to deliver there xmas pressie's For their kids.I never normaly leave these items in my car,but as i had my hand's full with boxes, it was going tobe to much to carry my items,so i popped them into glove box.
The point i am trying to make here is TOMTOM is what i would call a incar SAT NAV SYESTEM.Yes it might not be part of your car,but how else are you surpose to use it within the car? At what stage does it become part of your car? Car insurance's need to sort the rules out for these types of items and make it very care in the TERMS & CONDITION what is and what is not covered.ETC.
We pay good money for our insurance cover, only to find all types of loop holes when you might need to clam for somthing along these lines.
Even the onbudsman said they need to sort this out as in today we have these type of ADD IN FOR CAR'S ETC.£2008 in 2008 member 519 feb 08 sony mp3 player.

i was told by a policeman that thieves are looking at the windscreens for any markings left by the cradles of items and then they break in and head straight for the glove box..Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0
