For your dozen or so relatives and friends I presume...

(offer is one per person...)
• No wonder I had no luck last time !

Had another go with this one but still don't hold out much hope of getting one ! Certainly won't be checking on my account every few hours to see if the voucher has arrived (or not).

Lots of journeys booked through them don't allow a F&F railcard. Some won't let you have an off peak ticket just an advance and lots of them are more expensive than Virgin. To do Brum to London return for me and one child saved £2 using RSH and the £10 credit but only if I could guarantee which train I'd catch. Going with Virgin I would be able to use any off peak train. If you don't get the credit this time don't think you missed out too much - unless there are loads of journeys that are better deals than what I've looked at.

When they did this offer before the first email came immediately (headed "Redspottedhanky Registration"), then a second one came a day later (headed "Welcome to rewarding travel") and a third came 2 days later (headed "Your e-voucher is now ready").

Those were all weekdays, and seeing as this is a bank holiday weekend they might take longer this time, but it may all be automated and work on the same timing as before.

Not true! I have booked a return ticket to London with a Family and Friends railcard 8 weeks in advance. no problem and it was a mahoosive £120 cheaper plus i got £10 off so for 1 adult and 1 child it cost me £15 return on East Coat trains :j:j

Don't know much about F&F railcards but my understanding is that all the rail ticket sites - Trainline, FirstGreatWestern, Virgin, Redspottedhanky etc use the same pricing structure, as they're all using the same database system. So the pricing should be the same in all - the only differences should be how you search within the site (which might make your results look different as the search criteria might not always work the same way - you might need to tweak the search from site to site to get exactly the same result, if you see what I mean). B]Edit - here's a link to Martin's take on this where he says "Bizarrely, they often list different tickets"- http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-train-tickets#less[/B

The real differences are how the sites charge (e.g do they charge for credit cards, for posting the tickets etc).

So, redspottedhanky should give the same prices as everyone else - but they come out better on charges (no charge for credit cards and, I think, free posting unless express delivery). Plus, with this promo, an extra £10 off...

(and they take Tesco Rewards tokens too - 3x value of clubcard tokens, but that's another story)

Why do some people feel the need to do this?

When I search lots of the times available on Virgin say "not available with this railcard" on RSH. They are more expensive too for the journey I have chosen and I can't select super off peak hence it being more expensive and less flexible for my chosen trip. It's not "not true" - this is my experience on trying to book and in the end I've gone with Virgin directly. I don't make up little stories to post on mse when I'm bored on a Saturday.
