I am also interested in this, i am about six months into my contract and got cashback through Quidco, i presume this has no bearing on it.

Read T&C's but would appreciate advice from anyone who has experience of ditching BT because of price rises and how you went about it.

Probably better off discussing it over here:

  • I have just rung BT and they assured me that this increase has not been confirmed , I will not hold my breath

Please understand folks that BT does not get its income from telephone call charges. That model was recognized to be slowly moving out some 15 years ago. BT's income comes from it's vast library of media rights, telecom's and software IP and infrastructure. Call charges are a minuscule proportion of it's business proposition.

I'm sorry but I just don't believe that.

Try 100 millions calls per day x 12p connection fee + (say) 50p cost of each of those phone calls x 365 days = one hell of a lot of money - hardly a miniscule proportion!

  • Re new BT Rental charges increase
    Yearly payment £120

"Only available to customers with paper free billing
If you currently get a discount for paper-free billing, this will stop." And you have to tell them to renew.

    - 17p + VAT to use their 'Call Return feature' (pressing 3 after a 1471)

    - and remember Off Peak does not start until 7pm

    - and they are getting the lions share of your ISP sub. if they use BT lines. So really two bites of the cherry - phone landline rental and broadband line.

It really is scandalous if you live in a rural area with no alternative

And the Government had to poach multi millions from the beeb to 'improve' broadband speeds to a minimum of 2Mb/s and infrastructure. How can other, including some third world countries manage it better????

The WORST company - and by some margin.
  • Phew I am so glad I am not with BT anymore.

Post Office have a cheaper standing charge, free paper bill and no extra charge for witholding your number. Pay the bill when you receive it within 10 days, my last quarterly bill just over £40 including standing charges, calls and VAT.

BT really do like to milk their customers for every penny they can get, why do so many just grin and bear it?

I am going to try and get my phone bill down to less than £40 next quarter. Loving the free calls to uk mobiles and foreign landlines at the weekends, can't say I miss my old £70+ BT bills

What free calls you mean the ones you pay for in the bundle.

Do they offer inclusive caller display ? Do they offer you the ability to have line rental as low as £10 a month? Do they offer an anytime call plan? BT does.Surprised they dont as its only BT Rebranded.:D

Not sure, but Post Office just seems to fit my lifestyle.

I hardly make any daytime calls most are evenings at weekends and I make quite a lot of uk mobile and international calls at weekends.

I didn't want to pay in advance and I didnt want to pay for ex directory. I don't have a UK bank account and I didnt want a 12 month contract.

My phone does not have the ability to display calls. I do like having paper bills.

My bills always seemed greater with BT, rebranded or otherwise.

I expect for other users with different needs and deeper pockets, BT serves them fine.
