Free Smoke alarms

Options
Speech-Mark-Left.gifOfficial MoneySavingExpert Insert:

This fire safety campaign is running nationwide, and all homeowners should be able to arrange a safety check. However, since each brigade is funded seperately, not all of them are offering completely free alarms. To find out what your local brigade can offer you, give them a call. A list of phone numbers can be found here

Thanks for this useful post Eagle_1!

Hi
Posted this earlier and someone told me it should also be put here so here goes :D

In the Noth East you just have to call your local fire brigade and they will supply and fit appropriate smoke alarms in your property, even if you are in rented accomodation.
they give you general fire information, do's and dont's, fill out a questionairre and fit the smoke alarms.

So if your smoke alarms have been up for a while, if you are like some people who have none then get phoning your local firestation............NOW !!!!!

Dont worry if you cant put them up, they even do that for you.

Hope it helps someone, the schemes a bloody good idea.

Merseyside Fire Brigade also do this. The number is in the front of the yellow page. I phoned up and they came that day. Fitted 2 Smoke Alarms, both with a 10 yr battery that never needs changing.

Always good to have 3 uniformed fire men turning up at your house in their fire engine :)
  • Thanks very much OP, I didn't know about this.

For those in London there is info on the LFB website (https://www.london-fire.gov.uk)

Thank you for adding more info.
I never knew about the scheme till a friend told me and if other people benefit then thats a result.

Thanks again...........and if people have not already phoned their local firestation then DO IT NOW, what you waiting for :D
  • In the USA the fire-brigades give the 9v batteries for free.

I think that the reason why people forget about the battery is because the 9v battery is too dear.
