No, nothing has been done because we are clueless even on start up where it used to say the three accounts there is nothing now and it starts up with the desktop appearing and so nothing is held in private with passwords etc

It looks as though they've reinstalled on Drive D rather than C from your second post? It was assumptive of me to put "c:\Documents and Settings\Vicky" rather than %userprofile% in that case.

They haven't backed up anything more than your documents. No program settings have been backed up. They could have easily backed up emails had they chosen to, so unfortunately you'll have to rebuild your address book and hopefully you haven't lost any important emails through this.

Your user profile is currently 'End User' instead of Vicky, so you may wish to make some new user profiles as per this guide:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279783

There'll probably be documents for the Kieron and Paul user accounts as well, so these will have to be set up.

After you've set up a 'Vicky' account, then the simplest method to copy your documents from the Vicky account is:
1/ Open My Computer, then navigate to Drive D > backup > Vicky > My Documents
2/ Select everything in that folder (e.g. pressing CTRL A) then right click on a file and select 'Copy'.
3/ Press Start > My Documents, and in that window right click anywhere and select 'Paste'

If they didn't get rid of the virus, I'd demand your money back. All they've done is make a mess of things. How do you know the virus remained? Do you know what it was called?

It was worms something which does not help you, got it back from PCworld was slow could not install virgin media security, digital home helped them and they said after 4 hours of trying to get the security on and failing that it seemed I had still got the last legs of malaware.syware a virus lurking about as the comp was so slow, non responsive and if you went to a page it went to ebay or you went to another page and it came up with congratulations you have won a prize, they said yes all the above, they ran endless clean ups and were finding 6 in one, 9 in the other, it crashed, it opened something completely different and after 8 hours they got it back up but yet still security cannot be put on microsoft yes but theirs no.

They insisted I went back to factory settings but have no discs (packard bell) refused to let them wipe me off so they went around it and ended up with this.

Could you run this for me, and paste the results?

The packard bell will have a recovery partition instead of CDs, from which you could restore it to defaults. Chances are it won't be accessible now because of PC World. You could try just in case, essentially restart the computer and keep pressing F11 or F12 until you get the option for the Packard Bell recovery. It probably won't be there though.

Who knows why they didn't use it in the first place.

The recovery partition is just a hidden drive; I'm not sure of a program that I could get you to use (easily) to check for it. PC World might have erased it. If they haven't, then there are ways to fix it.

No it was not even working then when pcworld tried to do that straight away he was mumbling something about the packard bell has it on the side etc and he could not get it to work.

Personally I'd get your money back from PC World - they've basically left you with an unusable computer, and wiped all your emails. I wouldn't use it as it is now, it's not safe to use online banking with it.

If you payed somoene to fix your car, but it came back to you still broken but with parts missing - wouldn't you be a bit cross? Wiping and reinstalling is the simplest way to get rid of a virus - there shouldn't have been any trace of the virus left if it had been reinstalled properly.

Get your money back, and find a local shop that'll charge a reasonable price to install Windows XP including drivers, service pack 3, and making sure not to wipe those "My Documents" and iTunes backups.
