Advice On Buying A Printer?

Hi everyone,
I hope Im posting this in the right section of the forum, apologies if not.
Im looking to buy a new printer, cant afford an expensive one, but would like one that prints, scans & photo copies too, not worried about it being perfect for printing photos just something that is reliable AND MOST IMPORTANTLY doesnt cost a fortune in cartridges.
Ive had a Lexmark before but the cartridges were just too expensive and my last printer was a HP Photosmart that cost a fair bit, did everything but then one day decided it didnt recognise the cartdridges that had been there for months and would not print anything again!
I know many printers are wifi connected now but a simple USB connection is what I am after.
Just looking for a decent printer where cartridges dont cost the earth.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated.:)
Thank you!;)

I would go for a Kodak. When it was time to refill my Lexmark it was actually cheaper to buy the Kodak and refills are so cheap.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

My best advice to you would be to buy a HP printer...Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I've just bought an Epson SX515w, cheap from Amazon Warehouse & the compatable cartridges are mega cheap too....
Even cheaper, get a CISS ink system for it for large printing volumes...What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0 -
For ink prices and quality Kodak or Epson, both do individual colour cartridges too which can be more economical, and both have top quality inks. My old printer was a HP & ink was sooo expensive.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

The Epson SX525WD is reduced at the moment here

The SX425W is here at £40 at the moment but scan resolution is lower than the SX525WD

Both use the same inks, and cheapest I have seen so far are here, these have 18ml black and 15ml colour

colour laser.
Toner carts are expensive but do last for ages (thousands of pages) and don't dry out if only used occasionally.
Also they work well on cheap photocopy paper instead of needing special expensive paper.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
I've been looking too for my son.
I have a cannon pixima 3000 (not available now) and compatible ink is cheap, good results and it doesn't use much.
I would recommend a printer that uses separate colour cartridges that can be repalced independently. Apparently some of the cheap epsons whilst having independent colour units won't print black if one is empty - see reviews.
The reviews also complain of high ink usage.
I have been looking at Brother - they are not the cheapest to buy but compatible ink is well priced.
I am still to be convinced on the Kodak argument. May no doubt be cheaper against original ink of comparable printers but can you get compatible inks not just originals."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

for cheaper inks get yourself an Epson Printer0

epson all the way
i have an epson SX200 i bought 14 ink cartridges for £10 which i thought was cheap, they've come down since i bought mine over 1year ago, epson use about 8ml of ink in their carts whilst these compatibles hold about 18/19ml. and for me last a long time, with the help of a program called Inksaver 2.0 the ink usage can be dropped even further.0 -

My best advice is not to buy a HP printer. I have an all singing dancing touch screen thing, absolute rubbish, it takes longer for the printer to prepare for printing than to actually print, and cartridges are not cheap and it takes 4 of them.0
