I resent the implication that I didnt bother to get the postage right because I am lazy. I work full-time, I live miles from a post office and I dare to spend my Saturday volunteering at a local event planned months in advance. Thanks for the advice.
As much as you are not selling as a business ebay and your cuztomers expect a certain standard. If you are unable to do basic things like get your postage correct you wont be and shouldn't be selling on ebay.
Postage isnt rocket science weigh the item get the price from royal mail pricefinder and add a wee bit on for packaging.'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

I'm just guessing from some of the stuff said, but standard parcels via Royal Mail may be a postal option. There are also some courier services that could possibly less than the Royal Mail prices.
There's no great amount of harm in politely asking your customer, letting them know of the mistake, but as others have said they are well within their rights to say no and this could badly effect your Ebay status..0 -

If it's large, try sending it through GWizz couriers.0

If you list as RM delivery & then use a courier you stand a very good chance of getting low stars.
Several people on here don't like courier delivery & tend to steer clear of seller who use couriers.0 -

Totally agree I avoid non parcelforce couriers as I normally get a surcharge due to my location. Also I have normally found the service poor. So sellers who list couriers I avoid.'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

I agree that for some items it is inpractical to use Royal Mail, but then as a buyer I can bid knowing that it will be a courier. I don't like couriers and will do everything to avoid buying from a seller that uses them...but sometimes needs must and as long as my item gets to me I have no problems and the seller would get my usual 5* across the board.
However, if a seller advertises Royal Mail but then uses a courier I would be unhappy and I would reflect that by maybe leaving 4* for p and p rather than my default 5*. Then if I am inconvenienced (as I usually am by couriers) and have to arrange re delivery or drive miles out of my way to collect then the stars would drop even further.
Never ever materially change the postal service shown in the listing, it never ends well.
As for getting items quicker I disagree. I'm in LOndon and Royal Mail is fairly reliable for large items (standard post can be a littl emore difficult) whereas couriers are very unreliable as they cover too much ground and their routes don't allow for the traffic. Half the time I expect a courier delivery it is delayed as they are out of time before they can deliver my goods.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I guessed and got it wrong because I took it that the item would go by second class and it cant because its too heavy. I am only mere mortal (as opposed to an MSers which is entirely different I believe based on my experience of these boards). I should have known really not to bother asking.
except you have many posters saying they have made the same mistake and taken the hit
if you are so busy then dont eBay
I know it must be hard being on that moral high ground of volunteering (dont know why you felt the need to mention that?) but you chose to sell on eBay
so do it right or dont do it at all0 -
I get most Royal mail next day (even 2nd class). Pretty hard to beat that especially if I am out and its easy to get them to redeliver. Getting some couriers to redeliver either costs me more or ends up in some palaver of me having to go miles to some out of the way depot. If a seller changed postage to a courier and that happened I would make my un happiness known in FB and DSRsObviously_the_best wrote: »Sometimes though it has to be done and they will get their item quicker!'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'
