Did anyone read that I did edit in that postage was a guess and I would charge as whatever it was?

I resent the implication that I didnt bother to get the postage right because I am lazy. I work full-time, I live miles from a post office and I dare to spend my Saturday volunteering at a local event planned months in advance. Thanks for the advice.

    And this is relevant because?

It takes less than a minute to weigh it and look up the postage on the RM website. Not exactly rocket science.

    Im not going to argue.

I guessed and got it wrong because I took it that the item would go by second class and it cant because its too heavy. I am only mere mortal (as opposed to an MSers which is entirely different I believe based on my experience of these boards). I should have known really not to bother asking.

So it's nothing to do with working full time then?

We all get things wrong, it's making poor excuses that have consequences, particularly for your buyer in this scenario.

Swallow your mistake and send the item. Learn from it, not make it an excuse.

Unfortunately in your OP you said that you weren't willing to pay the extra postage, I'm not sure how you expect people to respond. You were making a statement not really asking for advice.
We were never going to respond in a way that gave you a nice warm fuzzy feeling.
We've probably all done the same, it's part & parcel (no pun intended) of selling on ebay.
You either now post the fabric & think that's got that out of the way & a few quid in my pocket, or you refuse & take the consequences.

Your post makes no sense. You weighed it then used the website? Then you guessed? The website won't quote if the service is not available

Anyway it can'r be as bad as my recent mistake when I transposed my European postage with my worldwide postage and ended up way out of pocket on a run of items :(

Or when my husband sold a book on Amazon that must have had a lead-lined cover, airmail to New Zealand, at a really serious loss.

You do just have to take it on the chin, and possibly buy a set of reliable digital scales.

i think if i was the buyer and you asked for extra for postage i would say no.. BUT i have offered to pay extra to a seller when I have noticed they have paid more for postage than i did... (i assume they either guessed wrong..) but it does depend on how the seller is....

If I was you... just send it and hope for the best...

Crikey I hope you're a bit more polite with your buyers on ebay!

I've managed to get postage wrong twice this week (well done me) but what can you do - just take it on the chin. You've had really good advice here, from experienced buyers and sellers, I really would take it if I were you.

    too many comps..not enough time!

Unfortunately ebay doesn't work like that and buyers really don't care about any of our lives outside ebay. The postage you show is the amount that the invoice picks up for the buyer to pay. Unless I am misreading your post you appear to be suggesting that you expected people to bid without knowing the final cost, which is of course a bit of a risky way of selling.

    Everyone did.

It's not allowed, and you should have done the work - that's your job. You get the reward, so you have to make the effort.

It takes about five minutes to weigh something and look up how much it costs on the RM website. If you have no time to do it properly and fairly, you have no time to sell on eBay. You can't have your cake and eat it.

There should be no excuse for just guesstimating, because you're the one who's responsible for this, not your buyers.

As people have said - enjoy your well-deserved neg.
