Where do you keep your litter tray??

I have 3 cats. 1yo Sebastian, who is an out all day, in all night cat and 2 5mo kittens Astrid and Darwin.
Sebastian poops outside and the kittens aren't allowed out yet so we still have a few litter trays. Even when the kittens are old enough to go out I still want to keep a litter tray just in case!
I keep one litter tray in the spare bedroom (now the cat room) upstairs and the other one in the kitchen. I have just moved the kitchen tray into the downstairs toilet, only problem is have to keep the door open so cats can get in. However I just though, I could put a cat flap on the door so cats can poop in the toilet whenever they want!
Much rather have cat poop smell in toilet than kitchen! Do you think this is a good idea?
I'm bored.

Yup, always a good idea as they will often go there if there's any problems and it's easy to see if there's any blood etcsophief333 wrote: »I keep one litter tray in the spare bedroom (now the cat room) upstairs
:rotfl:I have one of those spare rooms too! (now complete with baby gate so cats can get in/out during the day but the dog can't)
I was thinking of moving recently and the house had a huge downstairs cupboard - I would've put a cat-flap on and their tray in their if I'd got it.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

My 'occasional use' tray is in the downstairs bathroom, too: when I had a new kitchen put in, I really didn't want a litter tray in their either. To me, it makes more sense to have the cats' loo next to the humans' loo.0

I only have an upstairs toilet so mine is in the cupboard under the stairs.0

We have four indoor cats.
Luckily we have a huge storage cupboard in the eaves in the upstairs hall which just has trays. The door is left a touch ajar.
Also for the slightly disabled 'fatpuss' we have another few under the stairs in a further cupboard
That way they all out of sight and sniffing distancePlease note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -
all 11 (not at the same time!) of my cats went outside (we lived in a remote area) but if we were snowed in or any of them were ill, the tray(s) went in the porch
I've never ever understood why anyone would want a litter tray in their kitchen :huh:0 -
We had an old tv unit inside our shed when we bought our house so one day after looking at Ikeahacker.com, I decided that instead of going to ikea to buy a new cabinet unit to hide the litterbox
There is a hole on the side closest to the climbing thing so they can just jump in and out. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
When ours had litter trays, we always kept them in the kitchen. The cat flap is in the kitchen, and they'd be shut in there at night (they'd cry at the bedroom doors all night if not shut in, but never cry to be let out of the kitchen) so if it wasn't in the kitchen, they would have either had to hold it, or go on the floor-a tray in the kitchen is preferable to that! A couple of weeks after being allowed out they stopped using the tray altogether. We left it down, unused for over a month to be sure, but they just preferred going outside, we weren't disappointed! Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!0

We keep ours in a integral garage where we keep his food/water. He just comes into house via garage through two cat flaps one for rear garage door and one for garage/kitchen door. I have a litter tray that has a hood on it as he tend to push some out on to the floor0

My kitten has everything upstairs, as we tend not to let the dogs up here, and they're notorious for sticking their heads in litter trays! We have a full door at the bottom of the stairs with a catflap in it so she has access all the time.
I have one tray under my desk in the study as she spends a lot of time in here with me while I'm studying and a covered tray and all her dishes on the landing. We considered using the spare room, but when she's digging the litter, it can be quite noisy in the night and most of the people who tend to come and stay over prefer to shut the door and keep her out, so the landing made the most sense, rather than having her cry to get into the spare room when we've got guests.Original debts: £14,250
