In a very fussy eater and i wouldn't have anything that's on your menu (sorry that's just me) but saying that i would not of told you i wouldn't eat it. I would just of ordered something and then have a pick at it or let someone else have it. I have been to many weddings where i have done the same i would never let on to the bride that i don't like there menu because at the end of the day its there wedding not mine so they have what ever they want all the weddings i have gone to till this day the bride never found out they i didn't like there food i would never make a big deal about it.

Its your wedding your day you get to do and have what ever you want you stick with the menu you like

And that is exactly right. If people can't go for one meal without complaining, and just perhaps eat the side dish or sneak out for a kebab later on, they shouldn't be coming.

We're having a curry for our meal. I'm sure there will be MANY people who aren't keen, but it's our favourite restaurant in the world and we'll be using the 'chin up, jog on' approach. (Love it BTW).

To compensate, we're going fairly bog-standard with the evening buffet so they can all stuff their faces later on.

Just a thought, but if people see the menu in advance and realise they won't be eating a big lunch, shuoldn't they just be polite and go for a massive full English for breakfast, and smuggle in a packet of rolos? :D

We can only choose one starter, one main (plus a veggie option) and one dessert. We went for a tasting today and have narrowed it down to 2 possibles, we know we wont please everyone but anyone who leaves it all and starved can go to the cafe and get a burger and chips if they want!
  • I think that sounds yummy!!! Roast beef is boring........yours sounds much more interesting.

Sorry to sound harsh to your guests, but it is YOUR wedding so you should choose things YOU like ie....not things that make you feel sick at the smell of them!

We kind of came across the same dilema....lots of OH family like plain food but me and OH and most of my family are very adventurous and so chicken or roast beef would be my worst nightmare for my wedding dinner. We debated for ages and decied to pay £5 extra per guest (doesn;t sound much but adds up with 70ish guests) so everyone has a choice of three course for each course....similar to what you have done. If people complain after that then they can eat around what they don't like.

The evening is a hog roast......I'm not sure what's gonna happen with vegetarians, but as far as I am aware there is only one maybe two coming, and they will both have had the big dinner so they should manage on the wedges etc.

    Good luck!

From what I read on another thread not catering for veggies is a cardinal sin.

The fact that you have a choice is fine imo.
You're never going to please everyone, so you might as well just please yourselves!

Your mum sounds like mine, I had people at my wedding I had never met before.
I like your menu, it's a bit different to the norm, the only thing I'd ask would be if the grown ups can have the jelly and ice cream too as I wouldn't be keen on the other desserts but unless you were a really close relative or best friend I wouldn't say anything :)

Personally I would drop the nut roast anyway and pick another veggie main as 90% of veggies I know don't actually like nut roast! That said if you think your veggies will like it, stick with it - it's your day after all.

Otherwise I think your menu is absolutely fine and it's great that you are even able to offer a choice - a lot of venues will only offer one option plus a veggie alternative!

I am assuming, by the way, that you are paying for the reception, in which case I would politely thank your mum for her input and then continue exactly as you like. If she is paying, though, I would try to reach a compromise with her that you can both be happy with (e.g. can you add beef as an additional choice for main course?).
