Fussy eaters?

Just finalising the menu for the main meal and buffet and e-mailed my mum (!!!! knows why as I have unleashed hell)

She has replied with a list of changes I need to make for the menu?

For starters we are having either:

Mozzarella, Tomato and Avocado fan with a choice of dressing
Melon fan with raspberry coulis.
Served with cava/fruit juice

Main meal is either

Mini lamb racks with baby vegetables
Poussin and baby vegetables.
Nut roast and baby vegetables.
With a choice of gravy's
Served with either wine/fruit juice

Afters is a choice of

Smoked salmon, cheese board and crackers (i love cheese)
A pistachio brownie and clotted cream/ice cream
Jelly and ice cream or choc sponge and mint custard (for kids)
served with a mocktail for children and a drink of adults choice

Coffee's,tea's and mints etc etc

Evening Buffet

The bog standard cover all bases finger buffet, volauvants, mini sausage rolls, satay sticks, cheese and pineapple, chippolatas, sandwiches etc etc

Now this is what I got back.

Your nan dont like lamb or funny chicken she wants beef, and soup to start with.
Your cousin is allergic to nuts so cant have nut roast or the brownie
I dont like any of the starters and i think a beef roast would be nicer.
Cant see the kids wanting to eat that either
Your step-dad wants salmon for mains - looked on the website and they do it.
Have spoken to X and he wants salmon too to replace the nut roast and what are you going to do for W who doesnt eat cheese, meat, eggs and milk?
Z from next door doesn't like anything.
The buffet sounds a bit dull.

I think your menu sounds lovely! Can I come? :D

Surely a beef roast is more boring than the lamb or poussin? And trickier to get right to everyones taste! Is it a summer wedding? Because soup doesn't really fit a summer wedding - unless of course, you have a chilled cucumber or gazpacho soup, and say, well you asked for soup but didn't specify warm!!

I think the fussy ones should just eat what they are given, and be grateful for it. But most places can cater for allergies and specific (medical) dietary requirements. Could the vegetarian main be changed to a risotto or (boring) stuffed vegetables?

For now, perhaps you could fob your mum off with saying you've taken everything on board, and then hope it doesn't get mentioned again?

    Good luck! :D

    Hiya,

Sounds a great menu to me. It's so hard when you have fussy eaters, I think some people have to remember than you can't all have a full choice of things at peoples weddings. They might do Salmon as stated on their website but is it in your budget. I'd do as suggested & say you are looking into it & keep quiet!

    Best of luck

Looks like a lovely selection to me.

    Only points I would have
    - Is your cousin a vegetarian? If so then changing the nut roast may be an idea if she is allergic to nuts as that's the only non-meat main course option.
    - For W not eating cheese, meat, eggs and milk, why can't she have melon, nut roast and brownie without icecream?
    - Step Dad wants salmon? Tough luck.
    - Mum and Nan want beef? Tough luck.
    - Z from next door doesn't like anything? Really? Nothing? She can bring a sandwich

(For comparison, my wedding had a main course choice of chicken or vege option (but can't remember what that was). That was it. If people didn't eat it then that was their look out - I had more important things to be concentrating on that day!)

  • I wasn't going to invite half the people to the main meal as we wanted to keep it small but her and her big gob have already invited 22 extra people.
The nut roast was agree on by the veggies as i took them to the venue to choose.
I really don't want to order salmon for mains as the smell makes me want to wretch but I can just about stomach the chilled stuff.
The ones creating all the bloody problems were not actually invited by me.

Maybe I should employ a doorman and make him turn away those without invites.

Best idea I have heard yet :rotfl:

Is you Mum going to stump up the cash for these extra guests she has 'invited'?

    Families, eh?

The cousin is not a vegetarian but might die if a nut is within 300ft of her. I think its all drama as I tested this theory as a teenager and plucked peanuts out of a florida salad and she didnt die, I think she just doesnt like nuts. I didnt actually invite her either.

  • Here you go I have drafted out a reply for you, just copy and paste it into an email to your mum.

    Dear Mum

Please tell all those who don't like the menu 'chin up, jog on' It's my wedding and they can eat what they are given.

    Hope you are OK

In a very fussy eater and i wouldn't have anything that's on your menu (sorry that's just me) but saying that i would not of told you i wouldn't eat it. I would just of ordered something and then have a pick at it or let someone else have it. I have been to many weddings where i have done the same i would never let on to the bride that i don't like there menu because at the end of the day its there wedding not mine so they have what ever they want all the weddings i have gone to till this day the bride never found out that i didn't like there food i would never make a big deal about it.

Its your wedding your day you get to do and have what ever you want you stick with the menu you like

How likely is it that it isn't really the guests being fussy, but your mum trying to get more involved and maybe take some control of the whole thing? Surely if your nan had a real problem with the menu she could say so directly to you?
Either way I think I'd just ignore it, and carry on as if nothing had been said. Anyone who doesn't like the food is perfectly welcome to eat elsewhere at their own expense.

As I tell the family if they complain. You have a choice.

    "Eat it or do without."
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
