sounds to me like they already had someone lined up for the job but had to conduct interviews to make it look like the person was the best applicant.
so annoying.
good luck for asda, my mam used to work for them and loved it

I agree with Sunflower, I was wondering if they'd already had someone, but had to go through the right channels of advertising and interviewing.
I can't understand why they'd put someone in to interview you who had no idea what was going on - it's stupid! Perhaps she was just a shop assistant and they had no one to interview you?
Apply again, only this time, tell them off when they're on time because YOU'RE not readyjoking x
 Thank you to everyone!

To be told off for being 5 minutes early is ridiculous, it can be inconvenient for the interviewer if someone turns up too early as they have their schedule they have to stick to but up to 10-15 minutes early should be fine. 5 minutes should be perfect, especially since everyone's watches aren't exactly synchronised, what if theirs had been fast!
I would stop contacting them now and wait, you've done everything you can. If you're informed you didn't get the job it's fair enough to ask for feedback. I'm sorry this happened to you, it's so frustrating. But just think if they were this unprofessional at interview imagine what they'd be like to work for!0 -
Gosh, back in the day it was just a quick interview and a job offer within days. Now it's like they want you to jump through hoops and beg. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

Unless I was desperate a interview like that would mean I would not take the job. Imagine if they cant conduct an interview properly, god knows what it would be like to actually work there and expect to get paid properly.0

I used to have a manager who absolutely hated anyone being early for anything - she said it showed poor time management and would try to formally discipline people who (in her eyes) were 'early' for work. She was an absolute nut-job and you really don't want to work for someone like that (she also tended to be late for everything ...)0

OP, that sounds so bad that I think you should seriously consider complaining. I'd write to the Head Office at 7 Greens Road, Cumbernauld, Glasgow, G67 2TU, and maybe address it to the MD (and owner of what is rumoured to be 90% of the shares) Eric Herd.
Good luck at ASDA.0 -
Hi, well I just had the email, 'on this occasion you have not been successful...' it came from the area manager.
I want to complain, as I don't believe the interview was fair. I wouldn't even call it an interview to be honest! I'm not very good at complaining so have no idea what to write0 -

Do you think this is ok?
On Wednesday 24th August I was invited for an interview at the ***** store for the position of part time retail assistant.
My interview time was 11.20am. I arrived at 11.15 and was 'told off' for being too early. After a lot of mumbling from the lady who interviewed me (I believe her name was ****, she never formally introduced herself), I was led through to the office.
My interview started with **** informing me that she was 'brain dead' and didn't know what she was meant to ask me.
After her rubbing her head for a few minutes she went on to tell me a little about the store.
The only question I was asked throughout the entire interview was if I could work until 8pm, which I said yes.
**** seemed to have no idea about the job.
She didn't know what the hours were, the start date, or even the rates of pay! No notes were taken, and she seemed less than interested in gaining any knowledge about me or my capabilities at all.
After less than five minutes I was told the interview was over and I would hear in due course.
I do not believe this to be a fair interview. **** was clearly not trained to conduct an interview.
I would like to lodge a formal complaint. I'm sure you can appreciate that in the current climate, it's quite difficult to even obtain an interview at all, but then to have it conducted in such a way is appalling, especially from a large retailer such as yourselves.
I hope to hear back from you soon regarding this matter.
