Are you allowed to buy cheap school uniforms? Poll help needed

My child goes to a private senior school
Everything must be branded from a specific supplier - including sports gear!
Although the school holds very good 'School Uniform Sales' 3 times a year where you can send in good quality items your child has grown out of and they sell them at a set price. You can then either have the money back or donate it to the school fund.
They also change part of the uniform colours for the senior girls (years 10/11) which is very annoying.
Thankfully DD is now moving into 6th form and doesn't have to wear a 'uniform' but I think she is going to get a shock when she realises she won't quite be a free to wear whatever she wishes as they still have to 'be a credit to the school in their dress' :rotfl:0 -

I don't buy supermarket uniform as I find the quality and fit are awful and it is a false economy. I tend to buy from Next or M&S and the clothes last for years (passed down from one child to the next).
I would also consider whether the clothes that you are obliged to buy from a certain supplier (and pay a premium for) are better quality or not.
ITA thunderbird! But it does depend on how many kids you can pass those down to!
I also dislike school trousers that wear out at the knee all the time.
Personally - and I know this isn't what the thread is about: my school uniform would be:
anything you like as long as there is:
no jewellery AT ALL (dangerous)
only sensible shoes.
In most schools it is these 2 sensible rules that are ignored and the petty ones followed.0 -
My youngest is in state primary (age 4-11).
Everything can be bought from supermarkets.
There is a school logo, and items can be bought through the school office, but it's not compulsory.52% tight0 -

That is another problem that my brother and SIL have, their childrens' uniforms are yellow polo shirts (or gold as they like to call it) and brown trousers.
Not exactly readily available colours in the supermarkets!0 -
DS1:
My child goes to a state junior school
Whole uniform can can be generic/supermarket
DD2:
My child goes to a state senior school
Everything but shirts/trousers must be branded from a specific supplier

It can be mostly generic but a few items items must be from set suppliers
All different schools (obviously!). Our eldest spent Y7 at a completely different school in the area which changed to an academy and everything down to the socks had to be bought from the school or the child got sent home. One of her friends was sent home for wearing mary jane shoes with a strap as the strap part was not considered to be in line with uniform policy - bloody madness, and on the list of minor reasons she moved, the major reason being the standard of education was bordering on shocking."A cat can have kittens in the oven, but that don't make them biscuits." - Mary Cooper

I think it's the brown trousers that are the issue,
Thanks though
I will pass that info on. 0 -
are these too pale? the logo doesn't show, it's in the same colour as the joggers http://www.next.co.uk/x482786s3#108312x48kingfisherblue wrote: »My other son has special needs and attends a special school - one option that is not listed in the OP. He should wear generic grey trousers, but children with continence problems, or those who have difficulty getting dressed, can wear dark grey jogging bottoms without logos. I have yet to find a pair without a logo, but have managed to get them with a self coloured logo, which seems to be acceptable. The only place that I can find them for less than £20 a pair is Sports Direct, who occasionally have a single pair in stock, ranging from £5 to £10 in price, depending on when you manage to get a pair, and from which branch.52% tight0

Seriously? I'd be well miffed about getting a phone call at work that said 'can you come collect Jenny, she's wearing the wrong type of jumper'.Kimberley82 wrote: »2 children at primary, the jumpers and polo shirts have to be the logoed ones or they get sent home
I feel for them. Mine are/were in navy polo shirts and they are a pig to find. Adams used to do them, but then they closed and on-line doesn't do that colour. Tesco do them but only upto age 11, so for the last year of Juniors they were too small. I spent the last year buying some I found in a sports shop with a small white logo on them and waited all year for it to be commented on, at which point I intended buying a navy fabric pen. That is another problem that my brother and SIL have, their childrens' uniforms are yellow polo shirts (or gold as they like to call it) and brown trousers.

Do they have daughters? Brownies wear brown trousers. I don't know if anything from a Guiding shop would be suitable or work out any cheaper.
That might be an option to include in the poll, are the school colours readily available on the High Street?0 -
My youngest is starting a state secondary school in September and this is what we have had to do -
PE kit from the school
Tie and Blazer badge from local school uniform shop
The rest including blazer is generic.............ASDA is good for blazers at £10...........M & S for Jumpers and shirts........Sainsburys for trousers and Brantano for shoes and trainers...........
