If your debt is less than £15k and CAB have told you that you qualify then I don't see why not. There are about 6 CAB's in our town alone and quite a number of advisors in each so thats probably why it was so quick. Once the £90 is paid then its out of their hands but I can't see you being rejected. I hope not anyway. Ask CAB the next time your in how busy the Court Service are in your area. They usually are 'in the know' about these things and could tell you roughly how long you'll wait. Or go ahead and ring your local court and ask.

The court service has nothing to do with DRO's, they are an automated process administered by the DRO Unit in Plymouth. Once your DRO has been submitted, it should be approved within 24 hours approximately. Ask your advisor how much longer it's going to take, if it's 10 weeks or longer go elsewhere, I know other places are doing them in shorter time periods...

I didn't know there was a difference in the laws between mainland UK and Northern Ireland. DRO's are dealt with by the OR here via the Courts.

No problem. Same Government, however, completely different rules.

Well, all went well this morning! My case worker said there will be no reason why I shouldn't get my DRO approved!

The snag is, that her supervisor has to check everything over as its him/her that is the trained person who can put the application through and not her! This now can't be done until Tuesday next week! She said as long as the application is made on Tuesday, I should receive the paper with the barcode on through the post on Wednesday and be approved by Thursday (Fingers crossed)

A little disheartened as this means I still have another payment on attatchment to earnings being made, and also this process taking even longer!

These last 8 nearly 9 months have been a nightmare!!! (Yes you read that right the process of my DRO has taken that long!!!!)

I currently am on an attatchment to earnings for council tax, my work is due to put the wages through on tuesday to pay me on thursday if my name is on the list on tuesday can i tell my work not to deduct it or how does it work? will they still have to do the attatchment this time, obviously only if my name is on the insolvency register on tuesday as wednesday will be too late? sorry for all the questions, im a terrible worrier and i have this tendency to want to know things before i go somewhere to find out lm

The employer is under a legal obligation to take payment unless instructed by the council to cease the order.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
  • Woohoo! Thats great news Caz! Just put it to the back of your head now and enjoy your weekend :D
